Although it's name refers to a snake, the LTD Viper series basses are shaped more like something from a Batman episode. The double cutaway design creates similar, albeit slightly uneven curves like the famous Bat symbol. The bottom half of the basswood body is slightly off-klter, with the extreme beveled edges on the upper horn side and the more oblong bottom side looking as if the maple top had somehow slid to the side. It's an interesting shaped body to say the least. As far as providing you good sound and tone, the Viper-54DX has a basswood body with one ESP SB-4 pickup with an ATB-1 Active Tone Boost. It has a thin "U" neck contour and is short scale (34"), making it easier to play for anyone of any skill level. Other features include a ESP DB-4, 40mm standard nut, ESP tuners, and chrome hardware. The bolt-on maple neck is topped by a rosewood fingerboard with 21 XJ frets.
