The Gibson Acoustic Icon CF-100E is a time capsule back to the beginning of the acoustic-electric guitar. In this limited edition, Gibson has recreated the legendary CF-100 guitar. This modern CF-100E has all of the features that made the original a true icon. The back and sides are created from solid, Honduran mahogany. The solid Sitka Spruce top is gently pre-tensioned to give the small body much greater projection qualities than its size would indicate. The neck is mahogany, fully bound, with a rosewood fingerboard, and Les Paul-style mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays, just like the original. In the late '40s, electric guitars were just starting to become popular. The early electric guitars didn t sound all that good, and the amps available were primitive. The vast majority of guitar players played acoustic guitars. If they needed to plug in their options sounded really bad! Gibson was listening to what their customers wanted. They were looking for an acoustic-electric guitar. In 1951, Gibson delivered!Introducing the 1951 Gibson CF-100E-the world s first true acoustic-electric guitar! Based on the then popular CF-100 model, Gibson added a P-90 single coil pickup, mounted just above the sound hole. They added a volume and tone control on the top for easy access. To make things even better, the CF-100E sported a sharp, Florentine cutaway for easy access to the upper frets. The guitar-playing world had never seen anything like it before! Gibson had created an entirely new category of guitar! To further complement this retro package, the hallowed Gibson P-90 pickup is mounted just above the soundhole, controlled by volume and tone controls, with Gibson Speed Knobs, again, just as in 51. The nut is bone, as is the saddle. Gibson rounds out the package with a custom form-fitted hardshell case, and a signed certificate of authenticity.
