Anonymous 16th century Ricercars (RIKER-CARS) Originally written for six course lute.
Ricercars are Fantasia and Prelude like pieces that use a variety of contrapuntal techniques. A predecessor form to the fugue.
These are the first five selections from a book of French tab (letters indicating frets instead of numbers) arrangements of what were originally Italian tab (upside down number
tab) pieces from the Sienna lute manuscript. On the CD I performed the pieces in this order: 1,2,3,5,4.
