In this exercise instead of strumming only once at the count of 1 in each measure, this time you will strum four times in each measure -- once for every beat. Try to count 1 - 2 -
3 - 4, beginning each measure with 1. Over time this will become second nature to you and will be able to “feel” the count of 1 without really thinking about it.
Most of the songs that you learn will have 4 counts (or 4 beats) in each measure. This is called 4/4 time. Probably at least 75% of all songs fall into this category. Later on you
will learn about 3/4 time, in which there are 3 beats in each measure.
