The brochures/registration forms for WCU Mountain Dulcimer “Winter Weekend” have been mailed so folks on our mailing list can have their first choice of classes and reserve a spot for the weekend. They will be on the WCU dulcimer website soon: http://dulcimer.wcu.edu This event is a great value, professionally organized with over 31 hours of classes, activities and concerts for participants in its “extended weekend” format. It starts Thursday night, January 17 and runs through Sunday morning, January 20. Staying and taking meals at Lambuth Inn are a substantial savings over a motel. STAFF: Don Pedi Bill Taylor Stephen Seifert Lois Hornbostel Flora MacDonald Gammon Kenneth Bloom Betty Smith Will Peebles Joe & Marie Shelton LOCATION AND SETTING: The ideal musical getaway! Lake Junaluska is a world-renowned conference/retreat center, close to Interstate 40 and NC Route 74, near Waynesville and Maggie Valley, NC. Surrounded by exquisite mountains, the lake and resort community are a scenic setting. Our classes, concerts, lodging and breakfast and lunch are held under one roof in the historic, beautifully appointed Lambuth Inn. They offer our participants very economical rates! CLASSES AND ACTIVITIES: Early morning T’ai Chi with Don Pedi, followed by breakfast and playing skills classes for: 1. Beginners, 2. Advanced Beginners; 3. Intermediate Players; 4. Advanced Players; or 5. Bowing the Dulcimer (some experience required). After lunch classes in subjects of interest to dulcimer players (Traditional playing & repertoire, Contemporary/improvisational playing, Bowing for new players), featuring whole staff. Other activities include a narrated bus tour of Lake Junaluska, lots of jams, a FIELD TRIP to Waynesville’s Museum of NC Handicrafts, followed by a big jam at the museum with public in attendance. A staff concert in a new format will be on Friday night, and a participant sharing circle will take place in Saturday night’s activities.
