If you'll be in the Houston, Tx area in January mark your calendars for Jan. 13, 2007. Eddie Collins will be presenting a 5-String Banjo Workshop at the "Pickin' Place" in Dayton. Workshop begins at 12 noon and lasts to 5:00 pm. Cost is $50.00 ($25.00 deposit can hold your spot) Eddie is not only well known for his column in Banjo Newsletter but he was the founder of the 5-String Quarterly and has published many instructional books, including the popular "Basics of Bluegrass Banjo", "Beyond the Basics of Bluegrass Banjo", "Playing in the Key of C", and "Playing in the Key of D." He also has three solo CDs to his credit. Eddie's been teaching 5-string banjo for many years in Austin and has traveled all over the US and abroad giving workshops. At this workshop you'll learn to: Improve your skills in solid Scruggs style playing Jamming with others and How to get the most out of your practice time. Some other finer points to be covered include: How to bring out the melody in your solos Developing your own solos Integrating melodic and Reno styles Approaches to playing in keys other than G This 3-finger style workshop is designed for the beginner to advanced level pickers. Location of the workshop is in Dayton, Tx. just 45 east of Houston. Easy location to get to. The workshop is limited to 20 students and there's a few slots still available.
