In conjunction with Gamook I'm working on a new games section for ezFolk that I thought would be a nice addition to the site. There are 37 free games currently available for all ages. None of them are really music-related but I'm told a new trivia game will be available soon that will allow us to make our own questions and answers so that one sounds promising for a music-related game.

The first time you run a game you'll need to allow the latest version of Flash to be installed, and then the browser has to be closed and reopened to run it, so you'll need to load the games page again after that. That's just a one-time thing though.

I need some feedback about how the games run on different people's computers. In trying them out myself, using the Firefox browser everything has been running flawlessly, but when I tried using Internet Explorer 7 I had problems with the games disappearing from the screen.

Let me know about your results (including the Mac people). There's a chance we'll be able to have top scores for just the ezFolk users and if that happens maybe we can start having a prize for the top scorer in certain games (such as a "Game of the Week").

You can find the games section here...

A quick trial on my iMac running Firefox (I think I have the lastest Flash stuff already):

Crystal Cavern just flashes and says it's loading, but no indication on the browser of such.
Body Parts just indicates it is loading for as long as 2 minutes before I stopped it.
Chess is the same thing (the loading wheel just spins).

I was unable to bring any of the above games up to play.

I use a mac and Safari. It worked fine for me.

Hmm, maybe there are popups required. If so, the site doesn't make any mention of it, and the need to enable them would kill the deal for me.

I hope not, I'd like to see if Crystal Caves is anything like the original one I played on an old DEC PDP-11.

Brad

Oops - just noticed on the graphic images that Crystal Caverns isn't anywhere near the text-based adventure game I was thinking of.

The site still doesn't work for me, though.

Brad,

There are no popups. If you're using a popup blocker on ezFolk you really shouldn't. There are no popup ads anywhere on the site. However, there are times that a new window will open as a popup such as the popup Flash player, and I don't think a popup blocker can distinguish between those and ads.

It's possible that your problem in playing the games might be that you didn't install the latest Flash player the first time you tried to load a game. If it still gives you that option, try letting it upgrade you and see if they'll work then. There's nothing malicious in there that will hurt your computer.

Richard -

The site makes no mention of needing the Flash upgrade, or even, for that matter, that Flash is required to play the games. I came up to the first menu and tried clicking on a game to play it. For about 3 minutes the "loading" icon worked with no results - I did notice on one try that a very quick (too fast to see what it was) something flashed on the screen, but that's all that occured.

As for the popups, I do have popups enabled for ezFolk and one or two other sites, but the rest are blocked, and should ask to be added.

If you are in contact with the website developers, you might let them know of these bugs - I'm sure they would like to know that they need to let visitors know about the Flash requirements.

Brad

Worked fine for me.  Prompted me to load the latest version of Flash, which I did, and it came up fine.

As an extra item for ezFolk, I think it's a great idea!

I tried out a handful of games, and they all seem to work fine.

Firefox on Windows XP

edit: freudian slip: spelled 'Windows' 'Widows'
