Hi all.  I haven't posted in quite a while but wanted to let the regulars with whom I have communicated in the past know what I've been doing.

1.  Had grandchild #13 (Gweneth Lloyd, 6lbs. 2oz.) yesterday on my 61st birthday.  What a great birthday present.

2.  Still taking clawhammer banjo lessons from Mike Iverson in Harrisville, Utah.  He is a great teacher but I am not such a great student.  Still lot's of fun, but it's harder than playing uke..

3.  I just bought a Gold Tone Tenor guitar from Ebay.  It was used but in mint condition with a great hardcase included.   I have been having a lot for fun using my bartione uke arrangements with this guitar.  Sounds a lot better than my homemade no-name guitar that I narrowed the fretboard on.

4. Still reading posts and listening to songs at this wonderful site every day.  I can't believe that less than 3 years ago all I could play was the radio..  Music has really enriched my life.  Thanks to all of you for your posts, recordings, and replies to my questions, complements and encouragement.

5.  I still try to play all my ukes (6 of them) at least once a week.  I absolutely LOVE my Kanele'a Koa Tenor that I bought a year ago in Hawaii.  It sounds better all the time, and Musicguymic is a great guy.

6.  I have pretty much quit recording and posting mp3's here because the music that is here is so great, I am a little embarrassed to post my feeble attempts, but you guys give me something to shoot for.

Thanks, Preston

Hey Preston,  So good to hear from you and congradition on another grand child,

I have not loaded any songs myself as these guys are really good on here and I enjoy listening to them all.

Glad you bought a good tenor guitar, I have one that I built also and now have me a new one on order,  Martin is going to build a few tenors and I orderd one about a month ago and was told they are waiting for so many before they will build them so they can do it all the same time.   Makes me think that it will be a limited number they will build and not a ongoing thing.

I will be waiting to hear that clawhammer banjo soon as you were doing good on the uke doing clawhammer playing.

Charlie

Hi Preston,

Thanks for filling us in. I noticed you hadn't been around in a while. I know how it is with people coming and going though. Life is busy for everybody (especially with all those grandkids!) and if it's not life in general, the Internet has so much to choose from that it's not surprising when people go off to greener pastures. It's always nice to see them come back too though if they happen to find out the grass is pretty green here at times too.

Sad to hear you're not posting music because maybe you're playing is not good enough. I was always impressed by how quickly you picked things up. One of the things about ezFolk is that everyone is welcome to post their music no matter what their skill level is. Even if you consider yourself a beginner, there are other beginners who get some inspiration from knowing everybody's music is welcome.

Anyhoo, stop by when you can and let us know how things are going.

:thumbs1:

Richard, there are no greener pastures.  I read 4 ukulele bulletin boards regularly, but rarely miss reading ezFolk daily.  I just haven't had much to contribute lately.

I don't think there is a source than can come close to this one when it comes to friendliness and helpfulness.  I have learned so much from this site.

As far as posting Mp3's, as I improve, I'll record more, but the quality of music on this site is amazing and I feel odd adding my stuff.  Also, I believe my playing has improved since  I first started posting my music here, and would like to re-record most of my songs and post the "improved " versions here but just haven't found time.

Thanks for ezFolk

Preston -
So glad to hear what's happening with you. Congratulations on your 13th (!) grandchild. What a joy for you! And new and wonderful instruments. Someday I'll work on that banjo and maybe have something to post...

You know, the thing I've always loved about ezFolk, and why I recommend it to everyone and their brother, is that it's a place for everyone. I have so enjoyed hearing your (and Charlie's by the way) music. Every time you posted something you showed how much you were growing as a musician. I LOVE that!! I mean, what's better than that?!! I learn from every single person I listen to here. Sometimes, like now, I have to back off on doing much responding and uploading of songs because of other things going on, but I'm here everyday, same as you, reading and listening.

Take care friend, and again congratulations!! :baby:

Amy

Congratulations. Don't know about greener pastures, ezfolk has been and remains the gold standard in music sites for me. I don't have a lot of internet access these days but often stop by even if I don't have time to post.

As for your music, I've been listening and playing for near on 50 years now and your Come Come Ye Saints is as established in my collection and gets as much listened to as any classic.

ezfolk kept me sane when I had little opportunity to play live with other musicians. These days I am blessed with an abundance of opportunity and musicians to jam with. Buts it's nice tio hear my old friends here too.

Preston, congratulations on the arrival of your 13th grandchild!

ezFolk.com is a unique web site with a unique on-line community, a more diverse mixture of musicians of all styles and skill levels than anywhere in the world.  Where else in the world wide web would erhu players congregate at the same site as uke, banjo, autoharp, and guitar players?  Without ezFolk, most of us would not have "met" or otherwise known of each other, and that includes you and me.

Keep up your music!

Dang, I guess I need to get my ears fixed. I love your music. You are one of the folks that inspired me to start learning the Ukulele. Granted I've been sidetracked by those ole' banjos, but I'll find my way back.

As a matter of fact, my 6 year old neice has adopted my Lanakia uke and is learning " My dog has fleas" .

Every time she comes over we sit down and work on it. Last weekend she asked me if i could get her her own Uke, so i am working on that.

I would love to feature your song Big Rock Candy Mountain in one of my videos. I don't normally make public appeals, but I'm not sure if you got my PM last month.

I can resort to begging if I have to.

Your music reaches more people and has a positive influence on more people than you think. You have no idea how many people you have motivated and cheered up with your music.

Tinpan

BTW, congrats on your grandchild :)

Tinpan, I did not get your personal message.  I'm not sure what your were asking, but feel free to use any of my music here anyway you like.  Thanks to all of you who have responded to my post with kindness.  That's why Ezfolk is the best site in cyberspace.

Richard is the MAN
