Hello, all.

I was wondering whether anybody could offer me any info on this. I have recently written a set of song lyrics- see the Co-Op Songs thread "New Song Lyrics- please comment", and am trying to put a tune to them. After much deliberation, I decided that I wanted it to have that sort of campfire feel, so I was wondering, what are the most common features of campfire songs?

Any info would be appreciated.

Shady H.

Shady-

Major Key, usually easy for kids to sing in. C, D or G I would think.

Simple 3 chord structure I IV V7

Lyrics easy for children (and the adults) to learn and sing, no big words or convoluted phrases.

Clean, fun, with a touch of humor or irony (and maybe a small moral).

:two-cents:

Brad

I'll go check out your lyrics, now.

Edit: After looking over the lyrics, I just don't see them as a campfire tune - these are the dregs of the night, bar-closed, soul-searching themes that haunt your thoughts when the darkness of doubt sits down by your side.

Yeah, that's my take on that set of lyrics. Which, I might add, I like. You have a good thought process going with them.

ShadyHarrison wrote on another thread(I have been somewhat distracted by events which have taken me away from songwriting.)

So much music, so little time. What bout E A B7?

I have been discussing the fusion of Blues and Irish and country with James Connolly.

I have taking the liberty of trying to do it. There is more than a passing nod to Goodnight Irene in the verses. If you're interested I'll email it to you.

Yeah, that's what the arsonists in SoCal call their little episodes.

(Sorry, been to too many of those!)

Yep, Ukeforever, it's where a bunch of friends get together, sing silly songs and have fun.  People who say they can't sing find themselves joining in.  Then they find they really do have voices...everyone has.:)

I thought I was answering the question.
