Actually, the price increase over the past 4 years has been quite modest ($50).    Rosewood and paua abalone has gone up in price.   A few months after I bought my Blueridge BR-73 for $445 (a 000 six-string guitar similar in design and trim to the Lark tenor), it went up to nearly $600.  Mine came with a hard case; now it comes with a gig bag.

Well guys,  I just could not stand it, So this morning I went and visted my friend that has a store close to me and he priced the Martin to me for $389.00 and I told him to go ahead and order it for me,  He said he was makeing up his first order of the year to Martin and this would help him fill the order and he would just stock it if it was not to my liking, So I could not turn that down.

Now the down side is we are in Texas and I will have to pay sales tax on it, But not have to pay freight, So it will be about the same.   He said it would be a few weeks before he gets it, so I will have time to save for it or sell something for it.

Please let us know how you like the new Martin tenor.  I have a feeling that this Martin model might not be offered for sale for more than a limited time.  Thanks.

Hi Will,  I agree that Martin may be giving this a trial run to feel the market out to see how many people might have interest in a tenor guitar.

I will give a review when I get it and let you hear it.  I may have a wait of a few weeks he told me.

The timing of Martin's release of the tenor guitar might be to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Kingston Trio (okay, it's a bit past 2007), but also with the news headlines of the recent passing of John Stewart, who played with the Kingston Trio from 1961-1967 to begin his long musical career.  Back during their heydey, the Kingston Trio, without a formal endorsement deal with Martin, were living advertisements for Martin's instruments, as the Trio was the biggest selling musical act in the world and thousands of fans rushed out to buy Martin guitars and Vega banjos (at one time owned by Martin) that the Kingston Trio played.   I'm too young to have caught them during their glory years - I was in third grade when they broke up in 1967.

Hi Will,  Thats a tempting offer and maybe a good buy,  I still am waiting for that Martin that I ordered last Feb. and have not recieved it yet, The dealer here checked on it last month and they still have not built them as of the middle of May.   I really want to wait for it unless they keep dragging on and on.

Thanks for the heads up on the other choices

Charlie

Resurrecting this old thread, I have just changed the tuning of my Lark In The Morning plectrum guitar from DGBE to GDAE, which is octave mandolin tuning, and it now sounds even better playing an octave below the mandolin.

Hi Will,   I had been waiting for the little Martin to come in and the dealer had been talking to Martin and they could not give us a time when they would ever build or ship them, So I went ahead and bought the little LXM guitar so that I could see if I liked them or not and it is less money also.

The dearler told me he would buy back the guitar if I wanted to trade it back in on the tenor. So I did that and really like it and the size is good for me and has the volumne I like.

Now here is what I did to it as I had already tried it on another and can change back any time.   the neck is 1 5/8 wide and I removed the 6 string nut and replaced with a 4 string nut and removed the 2 base strings and moved the DGBE strings to the center and it plays great for me.  Some may not like the width of the neck that way, but I do and I will just keep it till the tenors do come in.
