Also I am not sure how to update my favorite songs in this new set up?  sorry for so many questions.

Thanks,

PS You might be able to get some coding info for PHP here:

http://www.w3schools.com/  its an major tutorial source form many programming lanquages used on the web.

Hi, Holley,

I have been back and forth between my old (Sage) theme and the new one.  Not only do you get your song images back, but you also get back all your theme customisations as well.

It will not change the theme of ezFolk mp3 section, nor the themes other artists have chosen, so I don't think it will have any effect on your ability to comment on other artists, offerings.

Hope this helps.

P.S. http://www.w3schools.com/ is a GREAT site!  I have used it many times.

Hi Tony!

I just set my page back to the previous layout and all the pictures and stuff did come back. I really did like some of the features of the new layout but really missed those other features it lost so I guess I will leave it as is for now. Perhaps at some later date I will be ready for a new makeover.

Cheers! Holley:beer:

Richard,
On the new MediaPro theme, i notice there is only a Hi-Fi Stream to play the songs and albums, unfortunately i am still on Dial-Up, guess I'm behind the times. Anyway, my question is, are the Lo-Fi streams eliminated on the new theme ? or will this change sometime in the future ? In order for me to listen to the new songs I would have to DOWNLOAD them in HI-Fi to listen properly and this would take hours. I do miss listening to the new songs and new artists.

Thanks,
JamC

James, I think that might be one of the drawbacks of using MediaPro. I read recently that only about 10% of Internet users are still on dial-up, and while it would be nice to have the LoFi links still in there, things are probably headed in the other direction.

There are some things you can do to still play songs on ezFolk in LoFi. For instance, you could create LoFi radio stations for the music you want to listen to. Those would be stored in your own music section and you can listen to them, include any ezFolk artists you want, change them around, invite other listeners, or whatever.

Maybe somebody else can throw in some ideas about what they do with a dial-up on ezFolk.

Hope that helps!

I noticed the absence of lofi also, and would like to add my voice to a request to have that feature included.

Dial-up service is not always a choice people make, but, rather, is imposed on them by the services provided at their location.  I'm sure there are many people, like my relatives in Western Massachusetts, for whom broadband is not even offered.

James, you can still access lofi versions of songs that have one with a little bit of url modification.  Just get the url (Right click>'Copy link location', in Firefox) of the song.  Paste it into the address bar of your browser.  It will look something like this:

http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?mode=song_hifi&band_id=934&song_id=4005

Change the 'hifi' in the string to 'lofi'.  It will then look something like this:

http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?mode=song_lofi&band_id=934&song_id=4005

Then click the 'go to' arrow, or hit 'enter', and, if the song has a lofi version, it should start streaming.

Peace,

Back when we tried Evolution (by the same author) we had the same discussion because it didn't include LoFi links either. At that time I had the template customized to include LoFi and paid about $200 to have it done.

I really don't have the 200 bucks to do it again, but if somebody can do the customization that would be great, or if everybody interested wants to get together and come up with the extra $200 that'll work too.

Let me know if that sounds like something you folks want to do.

See ya then.

I have the PHP knowledge to do the alteration on the template. What I don't have is the "how these templates are put together" knowledge. Things like what custom tags do which thing, etc. Do you know where I could get such info?

HH,

The templates are all Smarty templates...

http://www.smarty.net/

The Jamroom part of it has extensive documentation that can be found here...

http://www.jamroom.net/Documentation

I do pretty minor changes myself. I keep wanting to learn all the inner workings of both Smarty and Jamroom but haven't gotten around to it, and the older I get the less likely I am to ever do it.

Hey Provencher, you're a genius ! the LO-FI works fine now with a little finagling of the url address. just been listening to "In Answer To A Letter", sounding sweet there Yony. Hopefully now a lo-fi version will be created when artists post new material.

Rock on Folkies !

James, Thank you.  I have just uploaded two new songs, and can confirm that the program will still create a lofi version by default, so, if any new artists' songs do not have a lofi version, it is because they chose to defeat lofi creator.

Hobbit, you're my hero!

Richard, I'm still more than willing to pitch in, in any way I can, including anteing up some funds to go toward improvements like this one.

Cheers,

I have found a relatively easy temporary solution that sort of kills two birds with one stone for artists who would like to use the MediaPro template, and still offer lofi links and personal chart.  I posted about it here:

http://www.ezfolk.com/forums/forum6/6147.html

Edit: A day later, I have discovered that my solution does not work as a dynamic chart.  It seems that the data does not refresh, so this solution really only serves as a page that contains all the lofi links to one's songs.  Sorry.

OK. Near as I can tell, this page has the variables needed.

Since the hifi play is already there, a search needs to be done (GREP?) on all of the assorted template files for the theme looking for the string "{$SONG_HIFI_PLAY}" to appear.

Then you look at the file(s) that show up in the search and duplicate all of the $SONG_HIFI_whatever variables using the $SONG_LOFI_whatever variables.

I don't want to go through all the hoorah of setting up JamRoom on my local machine, but if Richard would zip up a copy of all the template files that go with the current theme and mail 'em to me, I'll see if I can track down where the song stuff happens and figure out if I'm just blowing smoke or if I can do something about it.

I ought to be able to tell if I'm in the right area simply by looking at the code and comparing it to the page in question... but I can't guarantee anything.

I remember looking into this once before and being flabbergasted at how widely and chaotically the stuff was spread in so many files. Probably makes sense to the programmers, and may well make sense in the efficiency department, but it sure makes for a steep learning curve!

Sounds like they are into "Structured Programming" and "Object Oriented Programming," HH. I'm an old spaghetti-coder myself and just have the worst time with the new-fangled coding techniques.

I like structure and OOP doesn't bother me. It's all this scattered and uncommented stuff that drives me batty.
