I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, but once again we're switching forums, this time back to our old forums, which have now been updated and all of the old messages (approximately 37,000) have been saved and all of the old memberships (7,000+) are intact.

I was excited to find out last night that our old forum script that I thought had been abandoned had actually been renamed and modified and is now being kept updated and it's now up and running here on ezFolk.

Since we switched forums about three weeks ago on 07/05/08 there have been over 600 posts on that new forum but it never did really take off, and having an old forum with archives and a new forum for new posts was confusing and frustrating for mostly everybody, so to those who posted on the other forum and had a conversation going about something, please move it back over here.

If you're a new member who had registered only on the other forum, you'll need to re-register on this forum, and again I apologize for the inconvenience but it only takes a minute to register and I believe it's for the best that we get back to our old forum home that was in use for over four years.

Thanks for your patience!

:hat:

Excellent!
The new forum worked but I found it quirky.

Simili coming (be warned):
The old shoes just seemed to fit my feet better. Nevermind that they needed polishing... they're comfortable.

Hooray!  This is fantastic that you have updated and brought the old forum back!  Thanks so much, Richard! :)

Hey... glad you guys are happy about it. I'm pretty sure I lose people every time I make a change so it's nice not to hear any dissension (yet at least).

Hi Richard,

I'm glad you were able to resuscitate the 'Wow' forums; the 'phpBB' forums should have worked just as well but the layout just didn't seem so easy to take in. I hope you don't lose anybody.

John

I'm glad to have this back, too. I didn't mind the other, but this is more comfortable.

This old dog was just learning a new trick, but I'm just as happy to go back to the same old trick. :talk:

Thanks for all your hard work for us, Richard.

Yay!  I was ok with the other forum, but it's good to be on familiar ground with all the history intact.  Thanks for all you do Richard, and that goes for Brad too!

Well, I thought you'd just changed the look of the new one so it was broader. Since I changed logins for the other one I tried several times to log in with no luck.

I like these forums well enough but, updated or not, they still don't have any way to put a real link in (on the button bar anyways). I know how to type one in but many, many people don't. This means lots of scrolling back and forth because of 14 odd feet of URL being posted.

*sigh*

Great not to have to pop back and forth between all the archives and the new stuff though.

Link to ezFolk Home

HH... I'm seeing a link button on the buttonbar. For the link above I just highlighted the text, clicked on the link button, and typed in the address.

I'm using IE7 as a browser. Are you not seeing that button in your browser?

I see a link button when using "Reply" but I don't see a link button via "Quick Reply".

Well I'm happy to be home although I have to say arriving at the forums this morning I felt like I do when I've had a bit too much whiskey and enter the wrong house at the end of the night.  That sorts itself out rather quickly just like this did.

Richard, like those have said before me, thank you for all you do to keep this site one of, if not "the", best site on the Internet for those of us playing and/or listening to the music.

By the way I don't see the "link" button using Firefox 2.0.0.11

Peace,
Ed

I see what you mean by the link button not being visible in Firefox. I usually use Internet Explorer 7 but am answering this note in Firefox and there's no link button. When I get time I'll ask on the WowUltra forums and see if they can tell me why.

To add a long url as a link, copy the url onto your clipboard then go to http://www.tinyurl.com and follow the directions. You get a short link that you can copy and paste into your post. This will keep the page from extending into infinity.

Oh! Also, Richard, the "link" button isn't there in Firefox 3.0, either.

I got a response from the WowUltra author about this, and he told me...

Because of the vast differences in IE and FF there are actually 2 different text editors. One is called when the script sees IE and one is called when the script sees FF.

They are different and were written about 2 years ago for what was then current versions of FF and IE.

I plan on re writing the editors but there are many other things that need to be done. It will not make the next upgrade but I expect to have that done by the end of the year.

The functions would still be different though. Things like blur and glow are IE related and can not be included currently in FF.

Who knows where they will be by christmas, the new editors will be current to the current functions intrinsic to IE and FF at the time of writing them.

Banjo Brad wrote:To add a long url as a link, copy the url onto your clipboard then go to http://www.tinyurl.com and follow the directions. You get a short link that you can copy and paste into your post. This will keep the page from extending into infinity.

The problem with those is you don't know where you're going. You can't hover over the link and see where the actual domain is.

Oh, and Richard, you can add to the bug list (and this is new btw), you can't get your cursor out of a quote box. Same OS, Browser, etc.

I had to copy what I wanted to quote from Brad, then type in some of my stuff and paste his in and then tell it to make it a quote. Actually, I typed in the bbscode so I could get the "Banjo Brad wrote" part.

Once you've got some text that's not part of the quote you can click outside the quote box and it'll move your cursor.

HH... Did you see the entry right above yours? It's what the WowUltra had to say about the differences in the two text editors depending on what browser is being used.
