Over the years we've all recommended people to fix, set up, customize, refinish our instruments. Those names are filtered throughout the board. And hard to find when at some future date, they are needed. ,

This can serve as a place to mention people who have done right by you. Did the job well, on time, for a fair price, treated you with curtesy. And how to contact them.

It's also a place to mention people you would not go back to again. And why.

Come and let us know who are good people to deal with.

Hey Phil,

I think it would be best if you would start a new forum message for each place. That would allow people to see where you're talking about. Just start a thread with the name and location of the business, like "The Guitar Museum - New Hyde Park, NY" and then people can add to it if they like, but more importantly they can see at a glance of the forum threads what business you're talking about. (If you want to re-post that one just make a new post and I'll delete the old one.)

:thumbs1:

The Guitar Shoppe  Laguna Beach, California.

On Pacific Coast Highway, just north of the Laguna Beach Art Museum.

They do excellent work.  They also have a Martin Guitar Museum with some superb specimens.

Near Appalshop at the WalMart Shopping Center.

Boyd is excellent when it comes to instrument setup and repair.  He is also quite reasonable.  If Boyd isn't around, Clyde (the owner) can usually help out with minor things.  A great bunch of people all around.

I trust them with the guitar my dad gave me before he passed away, if that says anything.

The Repair Zone
8125 Ronson Road, Suite B
San Diego CA 92111
858-565-7984

Fred Marotta is the shop owner, and he is assisted by Dave Thomson.  Fred has done tech work for anybody who is somebody in San Diego, as well as a vast amount of regular joes like me.  I take all my guitars to Fred and he has always done great work on my acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and basses.  When I procure a new instrument, my first task is to take it to Fred to get it set up.  If you live in San Diego, The Repair Zone is the place to go.

Jim Craig of Hogeye Music repairs all kinds of acoustic instruments.  His shop has a great and eclectic selection of stringed instruments, including guitars, banjos, ukuleles, dulcimers, fiddles, mandolins, double basses, drums, percussion, etc.   He has set up my guitars and banjo, and repaired my 12-string guitar.   He has also been a performing musician for many years.  If you live on the north side of the Chicago area, his shop is near downtown Evanston.  He is a very nice and helpful person to deal with.
