Took forever but I finally got a skin and finished one I made last spring. Stretching the skin was quite an experience. Lot more to it than I originally thought and takes 3 to 4 days.

Took the first one to my teacher today, he said it sounds very good. A little lower tone than most but very warm and clear with good volume.
That makes me feel good. The second one I am much happier with the stretching on. Can't wait to see how it sounds!

You had mentioned earlier about the prospect of mounting new skins for others.  Maybe some of the members here would be in need of your talents?   After having done a few you would have an idea of how much to charge for material and labor.

As discussed previously,  I would still like an authentic python placed on my purpleheart erhu, and can mail it to you , you can keep it for as long as you need it to work on, when you get caught up and can fit it in.

I know it has taken you months literally, to be able to connect with and obtain legitimate certified python skin.    wow, that has taken you a lot of searching and "red tape"  to pull it off.

Congrats on a successfull endeavor !!

Wow, nice work! I registered here this moment to be able to look at the pictures and the reason to my big interest is because I´m buildning one myself at the moment! :)

I thought I was the only one in the world who was buildning one, so Im very excited to see this.

I´m almost finnished with mine and have documented it all so I will show you my work when Im done.

I have some questions:

1. Did you found any plans/drawings for making it or did you construct it yourself?
2. How did you do the body? Six pieces that you clued together?
3. How did you do the Tuning-screws?
4. Do you have more buildning-pics?
5. Have you any recordings with it or can you make any?
6. Were´re you from?

:D

Den,
To be honest if I knew it was going to be as much hassle as it turned out to be doubt I ever would have made the first one. Much less 3 more!
The python skin sounds a whole lot better than catfish skin too.

Memphis,
Copied a junker I had for the first one. Had a real one to copy for the others. It is made with six tiles glued together.
For tuners I used guitar machines and made longer pins out of brass rod. The only pics I can get to load are taken with my web cam, the rest the files are too big- sorry.
As I am sure you are finding out, for as simple as they look, they are a lot of work. Good luck!
Karl

Thanks Reber!

There is much work indeed! I´ve been working for weeks with mine.

Can´t you resize the pictures in some program like Photoshop? Or just load them up at maybe http://imageshack.us and link? Or does the forumrules don´t allow that?

Anyway, I could never get snake-skinn so I bought fish-skin and hoping that it still will sound good.

Smart idea with your tuners, I was into the same but changed my mind. So I made my own with an other quite brilliant solution I think. ^^

hi,reber

I'm interested in how you fit together the parts of the guitar pegs to the erhu.
Can you take a photo of the part of the pegs, and upload it?

Here is a better picture of the tuners. They come apart fairly easy and are not very complicated.

Kick ass Reber!
Looks no different to a professional made Erhu. Now just tone your making abilties and lets see if Eason's gonna pick up any of your later creations. LoL
