and then I ran into a couple small troubles.   I lost ,  ya , lost,  the parts I had set aside for the base,,  so I was reduced to using a couple of the scrap trimmings  to use to get anchor points for the strings.   and a computer crash lost a couple of my photos of working the neck and tuner pegs,   but I can re-take them later for future posting.   Here I had used the skin of a bongo  for the experiment of it,  but I still need to do something creative for that to improve the sound.  I have it together enough to string it up for a trial ,   It does play  and sound loud enough for certain  but there are some inharmonious vibes going on that periodically resembles an austrailian  didgereedoo.   havent had enough time yet to sort that out, and am not sure if those "duet vibrations"  are from the skin, strings, rosin, bridge, damper or what not all.    More to come later,  this is a slow process !

and then the best news would be ,  a little bit later on , I will ship this thing to Reber,  he has gone through the process of obtaining the permits etc for obtaining python skins from China ,  then my homemade purpleheart  (after the wood specie namesake)   will have a genuine python to boast.

no fragrance at all,  it is an extremely hard wood though,  tough to work with.

Hello Den,
It looks realy cool!!! A real nice erhubody made with cool looking wood.
I should go for the snakeskin. I think it gives far more satisfaction after this hard work with a real snakeskin on it....
Did you tried your local leathershop for snakeskin? I asked around in my town and probably I can get some piece for my Dan Nhi project.

Good job Den!

It would seem I will soon have it (the sound) under control.  there was a bit of worry there when I was getting some periodic vibes that didnt belong,  like a didgereedoo accompanying me once in a while.  I put on a set of new strings,  not sure what they are but the fat one is silver and the thin one gold toned.  also put in a harder (dark) bridge , also a piece of real felt rather than a chunk of foam.  freshly rosined a known bow. and while I was at it I noticed I wasnt happy with the eveness of the qainjin  so I tied on another directly above the first on a whim, and decided to leave it there, (double dampening??)  I never heard of anyone trying that before.  now it sounds pretty good.  also it still has lots of volume.   so it would seem a bongo skin is alright to use if there is no python available.  However, I still will be happy when Reber receives his shipment of python , and I will have him stretch one of those onto mine.  Still tinkering with this purpleheart one, but I was interested in the first trial run.  This whole project is certainly worth the while,  it gives lots of fun throughout the process.

Have always loved Purpleheart as a wood.  Hard to find, hard to work, but produces nice pieces when you finally get there.
