The title is pretty self explanitory. I am having bowing problems when I play my erhu. The bow hair gets stuck and when I try to play it produces a screeching sound. I can remove the bow from the erhu just fine. I'm not sure if it this is a technique problem or a problem with the erhu itself. I will post some pictures to better explain myself. p.s. how do you post pictures on this webiste???

Photos are great. Upload photos to a website that is available to everyone on the Internet. Photobucket is one such site, but there are others. You can use the "Insert Image" button to include a photo in your post, or use tags manually: [img]http://www.url_of_your_photo.com/photo.jpg [/img] I included spaces in the above so you could see the tag format. Make sure there are no spaces in yours. The image will not display if you have any spaces anywhere between the img tags. Best wishes, David

The photos were not working when I tried to access them. It would be most helpful if you can put up videos of you playing. For proper bowing techniques, I highly recommend the Chen Jiebing's website--that's how I got started myself. Eason also has many wonderful resources about the basics, such as bowing techniques, left hand position, vibrato... please check them out. http://www.jiebingchen.com/erhu/video.shtml http://tansungwah.blogspot.com/ Other than that, the next best thing I can recommend is watch a lot of erhu performance video, which are plentiful on Youtube. Unfortunately, the learning curve for erhu playing can be quite high, but perserverence will pay off. I have an intro VCD that I no longer need. PM me. screeching sound ? = the cry of a being killed cock. 1.Check if you bow in right direction or wrong. 2.Check if your bow adds too much pressure to the strings. right direction = Make bow hair near the pole(neck) as possible as you can, always. Last edited on Fri Jul 24th, 2009 03:32 pm by kaze |
