Hey all,

Back a few months ago I posted here looking to rent an erhu for the production of my thesis film, a somewhat dark fairy-tale/psychological drama called "The New Mother", which features the erhu very prominently both in the soundtrack and on screen. We ended up buying one, and the three-week shoot went well.

We're now assembling the rough cut, and getting ready to work on the score. The erhu is played on-screen multiple times throughout the film, as something of a theme song (with variations) for our modern, punk "temptress".

I'm at square one at the moment - I need both: the composition for the erhu, as well as an erhu player to record the theme. These two things could be done by the same or separate people.

I very unfortunately can't offer too much in the way of payment beyond recording expenses (the Director and I went into around 20,000$ of debt for this 30 minute short, which almost never yields any sort of return beyond acclaim or future funding anyway) but if the project turns out as well as we hope, we intend to submit it to festivals and the like, and would be happy to promote your work in any way possible.

So, if you think that you or anyone you know would be interested in working with us to score this film, please let me know as soon as you can, and I'll give you more information on the project - notes on composition, footage from the rough cut once it's done, if you like, even a copy of the screenplay.

Thanks,
Alex O'Connell

Alex
My oldest daughter runs the camera crews on the set and is in charge of lighting and angles and also works with a budget so I know a little bit about movie making very little I feel for your position I really don't know how you people do it living on that edge while trying to get what you want and stay on time and budget
What would really help here is

Location of this shoot and when you would need someone and for how long you would need them.
There are people here that would like to help out if they knew more about where and when and how long at that as well.
Good luck with your shoot

God Bless

Hey Clyde,

The shoot is already finished - we just had our "temptress" pretend to play. The erhu theme is going to be added in post production; so, as I mentioned above, we need both somebody to compose the theme, and somebody to play and record it (could potentially be the same person). This can all be done long distance, via phone and web. If you'd be interested at trying your hand at either, or know somebody who is, just let me know, as I'd love to work with you.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello,
I composed and recorded a dark erhu song this afternoon...
there are some imperfections, and a lot of improvisation, but of course if you're interested I can take the time and record something professional..., even if I'm a erhu beginner, I am a multi instrumentist musician with good ears.
Please listen the song there :

all the best,

Sébastien

Well, we corresponded quite a few times about what he wanted. I sent him a demo but never heard from him ever again.
