Hello to all, I have been looking forward to learning to play the Erhu for some time now. I am still looking for a teacher in the north Florida area but until then Youtube based lessons will have to suffice. Thanks and I am glad to have found this site.

welcome ferdinand , this site will keep you busy reading through it for quite some time to come. it will maybe answer some questions you hadnt even thought of yet !
That is a nice lookin erhu you have there, I rather like the pleasing effect of the scrollwork of the tuning pegs.

I know how hard it is to find instructors! I spent about two-and-half years learning erhu on my own, which was rather slow and arduous. Perhaps you want to consider internet-based learning in the meantime? There are a few different sources.

Sungwah is the owner of Eason.com, a Singapore-based Chinese instrument store that offers an excellent erhu selection, and he is also a regular contributor to the on-line community of erhu lovers. His blogs offers many great tips as well as series of videos on some erhu basics. Moreover, recently he has started an internet-based interactive erhu class.

George Gao is an erhu master performer and composer who currently resides in Canada. His website offers downloadable video erhu lessons for fee.

There are a number of different online forums for erhu as well, as you probably are already aware of them:
Ezfolk -
http://www.ezfolk.com/forums/forum50/
Zhengyun Qin Guan - http://starvoid.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=Erhu

You have even more selection if you can read Chinese:

http://www.erhuchina.com/
http://sgfgband.21.forumer.com/index.php?c=3&sid=4152c3be4964e9ee715ba4b22b5c4926

There is a wealth of resources online, but, unfortunately, nothing beats actually taking lessons from a real instructor. I wish you the best in your journey!
