Hi Jeen,

I went back to listen to your rendition #1 again.   It sounds more to the score that is in my instructional book.  I wish there is a website that I can get the score with the lyric as well.  If you know of any, please let me know.  Thanks.

Will

There are a few songs with the same song title as 茉莉花。The melodies are all different.  So far , there are 3  which are the most common one.

1. 好一朵茉莉花 also known as 茉莉花,or  鲜花调  江苏民歌, su bei min ge
eg. http://www.imusic.cn/player/play.asp?id=209390|

from the 1st song, you can hear there is a combination of 2 茉莉花 melodies. ie。1st song  & 2nd song combine  together.

2. 茉莉花,苏北民歌 jiang su min ge
http://www.imusic.cn/player/play.asp?id=135102|

3. 茉莉花,陕西民歌, shan xi min ge
eg  http://www.imusic.cn/player/play.asp?id=133695|

the 3rd song, I believe you will be more familiar, it is the same Jasmine flower played by Kenny G.

Note:

sorry, I noticed that the 1st & 2nd  茉莉花 songs posted above, are from 江苏。When I checked some of my song books or   search the websites, some of it was indicated as jiangsu 江苏, & some indicated as he bei 河北 or su bei 苏北,quite confusing. I've found the scores for the 3 茉莉花。please see the link below:
1. http://www.3rd-music.com/show.aspx?g=0e744536&d=b48 lyrics for no.1  http://www.inkui.com/a3/F/D/FD69287A6108234C3CFC.html2.  http://chinaqupu.com.cn:8080/plus/view.php?aid=14266  with lyrics   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-OmWTobvrM&feature=related  a   combination of 2 songs from no. 1 & 23. http://chinaqupu.com.cn:8080/html/qiyue/sakesi/20080502/47071.htmlhttp://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=7205f402b3dc183cab1eab3e9fa335ca44121babb5378d9e

Using the numbering started by Jeen:

1, I think this is the most well known Mo Li Hua.

Described as Jiangsu folk song. Seems like this score has a lot more lyrics than others.

Only the first 7 bars of http://www.3rd-music.com/show.aspx?g=0e744536&d=b48 is the actual song, the rest of it is an "arrangement" for the erhu.

2, this is similar to no 1, the melody is slightly different.
"茉莉花,苏北民歌 jiang su min ge" should be "su bei min ge"

I believe "Subei" refers to northern Jiangsu.

The recording I linked to is played in D, the lower octave sol and la has to be transposed 1 octave up. Or you could play it in G.

Hi Huqiner,

Thanks for the copy of the lyric for Jasmine flower.  It is pretty much of what I have in my instructional book.  Now I can associate the notes with the lyric.  I don’t know whether you’ve listened to the lyric in link #1 supplied by Jeen or not.  They sang only the middle three lines of the lyric that is shown with the link.  Also the middle line of the lyric is not what is shown, but it is from the link #2 supplied by Jeen.  How is that for confusion?

Hi Will,

The score provided by Huqiner is the right score .T he music which I have provided has a combination of 2 songs together. This is because the melody is quite similar and the arranger link the  2 songs . In fact,  I've heard some other arrangements which link either song no 1& 2 or song 1 & 3 together,  but they are actually 3 different songs .

Hi Jeen,

Thanks for additional explanations. The version that Huqiner provided is almost exactly the same as what I have in my instructional book. But somehow when I play the tune it does not sound the same as when it is being sung. Now I have the lyric, maybe I can sing along when I play my erhu.
