Hello there. I have just received my erhu and was having some trouble getting a good consistent sound out of it. It did not come with a damper and the bow is black. I was also wondering if anyone knows how to tune the erhu. I did have a erhu tone box but it only worked for a few minutes. I am an accomplished guitarist looking to implement the erhu. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can gain the absolute best sound/ tuning. thanks

There are several ways to tune (in increasing level of difficulty): Use a electronic tuner, adjust the pegs until the pointer indicates the correct note. There's also a program called AP Tuner you can use on a computer. Have someone play a D or A on another instrument, adjust the pegs so that the pitch matches. Strike a note on a tuning fork, remember the pitch, adjust pegs. Use your internal memory of D or A, adjust pegs. So basically the same as tuning a guitar! Getting a good tone/sound depends on good bowing technique, it's something that needs a lot of practice. Last edited on Sun Aug 3rd, 2008 05:27 am by huqiner |
