Hi, I wonder if anyone knows a place to learn erhu?  Is it popular in USA?  How's the cost for learn erhu per hour?  Thank you.

Please leave any contact information if you have.

In my experience, it is not easy to find an erhu teacher, but it depends on where you live. Certainly in areas that have large Asian populations, such as Los Angeles or San Francisco, there should be a variety of options for both learning and teaching. In smaller towns and rural areas, it would be quite a challenge to find either a teacher, or an audience of Chinese music lovers from which to build interest in a music studio for traditional Chinese music.

If you focus on teaching only erhu, it may be difficult to find enough students. My teacher has students on violin and piano as well as erhu. Maybe an excellent erhu teacher in Los Angeles can afford to specialize. Warren Chang in Seattle has built a Chinese school and orchestra over the past 20 or so years. If you have the right amount of drive, charisma, talent and panache, no one can say what your limits are. I would suggest that it might be good to have a day job.

Best wishes,

David
