I have been keeping an eye out for songs titles that would be good to practice with. I was interested mainly in those that used just the first octave or 8 notes , have thought of a few and seen others scattered around this forum. I think it would be good if we could all chip in with ideas of those that are good for learning on the Erhu, not necessarily for beginners only though. It would be a good idea to mention the skill level involved for songs mentioned. I have been noticing that most of the elementary ones to practice are western ones, which is good, they cover all the basic notes and everyone knows the melody, I think too that this would be a good way to learn how to read the notation. So, here are a few for starters , some (most) of which are mentioned in various places in these posts by members already here. Happy Birthday Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer Sweet Betsy from Pike Blue Skirt Waltz Joy To The World Streets Of Laredo Twinkle Twinkle Little Star When The Saints Go Marching In Hows that for a start? These are all within the 8 note octave and known to all for the most part. A good idea to collect them all into one topic. Now for the rest of us to add to the collection, we could get a sizeable list going here!!! Links to mp3 , midi, or such would be good too. Den

I found these two on youtube, by the 12 Girls Band, and seem like they could be modified some to be a solo and for practicing notes on the erhu. ??? Theme From The Titanic (12 Girls Band) Kawa No Nagare No Yoni (12 Girls Band) oops, sorry, I forgot to make them a clickable link to the site, but a copy paste of the song title probably would work to find them on youtube. Very pretty melodies !!! Den

wow, here is a treat for me anyway, I have for a long time been mesmerized by Kawa No Nagare No Yoni as performed by the 12 Girls Band, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO8f_j4NnVU and looking around I found this vocal performer doing the same song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UidYz1Je77s Den

There were two excellant photos of sheet music provided by Thunderbird, in another post, holiday music, could they be posted here in this topic easily enough? I think it would be neat to get these all organized into one topic. Den

I have converted this to erhu from the original score. The original song is played in E. The one played by 12 Girl Band on youtube is played in C. It can be played in D but not in first position. THis is a good beginner song but not for a new beginner.

I dont suppose that would be so simple as retuning the strings from D and A , to another set of notes? Den

Now many musicians tune their instruments to different actives either higher or lower to enrich the tone of a particular song now the Erhu is no different however I want to warn all of you right now take precautions especially when tuning this instrument higher keep in mind that the strings ly in the upward position and when they brake there is a danger to your eyes. Karl, I like the mention of the "new" beginner. that helps break down the abilities of a song like you mentioned about the titanic. When I opened up this topic I was mentioning that it certainly could / should be for all levels of abilities and mentioning how tough a song would be would be a good help! And there are probably lots of more experienced guys lookin for songs too that they wouldnt have trouble with, and would like to try out the songs too. Hoping to get lots of participation to this topic, there must be lots of "new" beginners out there that have a favorite tune to mention here. And lots of more experienced guys and gals too that wouldnt mind sharing their list. Titanic? well maybe not the best choice for a new beginner but, years ago while I was teaching myself the mountain dulcimer, I was studying from a record album, and learning a particular song, by ear. a couple months later I finally got it to sound the way I liked it, quite like the album. Then even later yet I found the music book that had accompanied that album and I looked up that particular song I played, and was quite surprised to learn that I had learned to play, a DUET ! keyword? tenacity. I glanced throught the numeric, and believe you are right about the title. It looks to me like you take a photo of the sheet and post it . I would like to know how to do the attaching part of it. Are you using a simple copy/paste routine while filling in the text body of the reply?? I havent tried this part of it yet. Den

I took a picture of the sheet...save as JPG file...go to reply...go to attachment...click on "Choose"...select the file from my hard drive....and click on send...I usually resize the picture file to smaller than 100K (file size reduced from 600K to less than 100K for the purpose of posting) .
