Can anyone out here name this tune? I think I have the notes in the proper places but I am purely guessing about the note duration symbols. I do not know how to intelligently write music but this is very close, enough to recognize the tune. Attachment: name this tune.JPG (Downloaded 174 times)

Hello Den, The rhythm is out-of-whack, I believe that your tune is "Believe me if all those endearing young charms". This is an old Irish tune with lyrics by Thomas Moore. If you Google the title, you will find a lot of information. Best wishes, David

wow, you nailed the title alright.!! Thanks. I knew those notes were close enough for someone to figure out. and please excuse "the rythem" I have never previously written a note on paper in my whole life. This is a chance for me to begin to study this sort of thing. And now that we know the title, perhaps someone would be interested in scribbling down the notes..........properly. that'd be interesting. Anyway, I like the song . thanks again. Den

I found a limited selection of that song on youtube, picked this one out, it is interesting how he does guitar and also mandolin at the same time on his video. I also found out that I need to re-do some of the notes on parts of the song. I had written them down as I remembered having heard it as a kid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdM1zh7BmVI

Thanks all. this makes it easier for me to get the precise flow of notes right. I had a segment of notation transposed due to a memory thing. Been a very very long time since I had heard the original. Den

Here is an interesting free download for a recording studio of your own if you would like to play a duet with yourself, using multiple instruments or doing an erhu recording twice (harmony) http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ they recommend the older version if you are new to the program, the newer one is still "under construction" and not as much documentation yet, etc. I tried it out and had a blast making a multitrack recording. sounded like a couple kindergartners first time at it, but it sure has potential if you are musically adept. a hint is that you can locate the page and checkmark the box that lets you hear the first playback while doing the second recording. seems more natural that way. I am totally new to this type of thing so it took a bunch of trial and error to get introduced to all the features available. Or you can do simply a single track recording too, not required to do a multitrack. one could also do singing or voice on a second track ( or 3rd) of it and merge the whole thing. It will then export and save as an mp3 but there is one more program to download along with it at installation to convert the export to mp3. this is a one time download / install for that feature. anyway, the program is totally free and works quite well. Also it is a sound editor if you really want to get precise with it. Den

I guess everyone is on holiday?...or hibernating?...it is so cold out there...good for playing Erhu indoor...what a quiet place compared to X'mas time...winter blues? I have a nice tune for sharing...good old "Red river valley"...perfect for Erhu! Happy playing and sharing! Big Bird Attachment: DSCN2679.jpg (Downloaded 127 times)

What an eye opener. I used that audacity program, and commenced to do the second track as the duet part. well, the first thought that came to mind was a caution givin to me by davidmdahl that my rythem is way out of whack. I thought he meant only my written attempt at a previous music score. but.......... david was a lot more right than even he thought... when I went to strum the chords along with the song that I had recorded, I had the dickens of a time keeping the right pace with what I had done. whew nothing like playng a dynamic role along with oneself to find that out in a hurry. Now I even have to learn to count to three, accurately each time. nutz If nothing else, that is another good reason to experiment with the audacity recording studio, it is enlightening in more ways than one ! I can use a prg. like that to correct mistakes I am not even conscious of making , while making them. Den

another song caught my attention, and I would commence fiddling around with that one. Scarborough Fair. I found I need to start that one out on the second note of the near string. d2? so that the lowest note needed is available, d open string. but then to get all the notes of the song then, I need to use my pinky finger to get the highest one. I had been staying away from that idea because I thought it would be very difficult to use that note. Well I found out that it is not all that difficult like I feared and that actually the note sounds just right when I really stretch out to reach that one. maybe this will open up more available songs to play with. and as there are very many patterns of playing that song by various performers, I guess I can legally create my own style for that song. Den, I think I got enough questions off the soft copy that I don't need a hard copy. I'll probably get the music score when I start the lesson again in June. Thanks for the offer. Will
