This is a quick way to change from DA to CG or whatever to match with other players, CD songs, etc...I only spent roughly half an hour to hand-sculpt and sand this little wooden gadget...the wood is hard wood oak, it was pretty hard to carve oak using a razor (cutter)...I have all sizes of wood chisels but found difficult to work with such small object (besides I was too lazy to sharpen the chisels for such a small project):):D

I drilled a hole for the elastic band and carved a groove at the base of the mobile Qian Jin so it can sit securely on the Erhu rod...well, I tested the home-made (limited range) mobile Qian Jin...it works well within my intention...to match a CD song with the same fingering! :):D

Happy sharing!:):D

Due to the height of the wooden gadget(Qian Jin)...the range is limited!

Looks good! Is it easy to move around?

Maybe someone could try a movable qianjin that pulls the strings rather than push the strings. In that way the distance between the strings and the neck would be kept constant, so you don't need to adapt to a wider qianjin distance.

By the way that looks like a Shanghai Dunhuang Yun brand Erhu and a Shanghai Dunhuang Erhu you have there in the background.

This looks a little like the electric erhu I saw in Shanghai:

Yes, the wooden gadget is fairly easy to be moved but distance is limited by the height of the gadget or you can say the height of the strings (from the rod)!

Yes, it is an elbony Shanghai Dunhuang...clean and sweet voice...however she is not my most loved girlfriend...I am in love with the one from Zhengzhou...she has such a sexy voice...OMG!:):D:cool::)

"A movable qianjin that pulls the strings" is a good idea...if I can find a little pulley wheel to do the trick...I remember seeing some of those wheels in the VCR machine...good place to look for those little plastic pulley wheels!:):D

I have seen so many ways of bridge resting strings and pulling into strings, You may have something there Sung Wah wondering just how it effects the tension  when the fingers apply techniques to them .

Here is another interesting set up notice the long string rest that takes the place of the Qain Jing cord and how it is able to adjust shorter or longer.

God Bless

More sentivity...otherwise no different than playing without that mobile wooden Qian Jin.

It is a fast way to match a song from CD (sometimes the song from CD is a bit too high or low)...by placing the gadget there you can instantly match with the "higher" voice (in my case)!:):D

This one is only good for home consumption...no mass/sex appeal in nowadays market.

Since the Platypus looks a bit like the Beaver...I will call it the "beaver"....hahahaha...just to give it a Canadian touch!...and don't get me wrong...a Beaver is a Beaver...nothing esle but a Beaver!:):D:cool::talk::2smiledevil:

Sorry Clyde I didn't have other pictures.  I remembered they use fishing line as qianjin though.

These things are pricey.  The last time I checked it is slightly below US$1500.  The see through Zhongruan and Pipa cost 2-3 times more!

Hi Thunderbird,

Thanks for sharing your modification.  I am new to the erhu world and hope to have one in a couple of weeks.  I would like to be able to change open keys but I don't want to modify a new erhu with a semi-permanent qianjin like QQqianjin.

Did you have to move your original qianjin to use your modification?  I noticed the GGao appears to have moved his all the way up,  for an A/E tuning.

Also does the tone of the erhu suffer or stay consistent?

Thanks for sharing,

Jim
