Now that bridge has some MASS! How does it sound compared to the conventional one? How come there are no string slots? What's the drum made of? Is that skin? Looks like something lacquered... Who's John Doe?

Very interesting.  I believe the drum's made of wood. You have any sound files?

The voice is deeper compared to the conventional bridge.... Banhu has a higher pitch voice compared to snake skin drum...it is a Banhu, not Erhu.

String slots?....John Doe?...please elaborate!:):D

Yes, you are correct...I haven't made any sound files...too lazy...I did that just for fun!:):D...the voice is good and clean...my instructor and wife gave me a thumb up for the quality after playing my home-made Banhu...I am also happy with the result!

The wood was stained and finished with Cherry Maple!:):D

"Who's John Doe?"

Bayun - Do you, perhaps, mean to ask:

"Who is John Galt?" ?

(Caution:Literary reference. The answer is found in a famous novel by an expatriated Russian author.)

String slots?....John Doe?...please elaborate!:):D

1.) The name John Doe is generally used in the United States as a placeholder name for a male party in a legal action or legal discussion whose true identity is unknown. (Wikipedia)

2.) String slots. See the attached picture of the Stewart-McDonald company.

I understand the common usage of the term "John Doe"...how does it relate to the current topic?...please give me a clue!:2smart:

I see what you mean by string slots...how does the "string slots" relate to the current topic...in particular the home-made Banhu?...I am scratching my head for your question/comment, please give me a clue:2smart:

Well, I cannot really decide if you are trying to fool me, or something... Since I saw a Canadian ten years ago drink beer mixed with tomato juice and eat dried squid with it, everyone is suspicious.:sleuth:

Your staircase bridge seems not to have string slots on the top. The strings sit in there without a firm point to grab the bridge to resonate it. Hence the question.

John Doe's coming to the picture I leave to you to digest further...:raining:

Hahahhahaha...you are funny!:):D

I don't drink beer with tomato juice and I dislike any kind of squid...even if they (my fellow Canadians) mix ice cream with beer or eat pig head (ethnic Italians do that for the latter)...I am not surprised...we belong to a multi-cultural nation and we intend to keep it that way for a long time! :):D

Yes, your observation is correct...no string slots on top of my "staircase" bridge...the tension of the wires cut right into the wood...no need for me to create two slots for them...if you try it yourself...you will see if I am pulling your legs or not!:):D

As far as John Doe, I am not really interested in him ...in general, everyone (male) is a John Doe on the net...I don't think I would spend much time playing detective...someone wants to do it...fine with me...to each his/her own...just my preference! God bless!:):D
