Hey!

I am a teenager who just bought an erhu. I also got an istructional dvd with english subtitles but i need to know how to rosin up the bow properly. I got it to make a sound but the sound sounds kind of scratchy and hoarse. did i put too much on, or not enough?

I am puzzled about the bow though. How do you loosen the tension on it Is it that screw in the back No mattter how much i screw it in or unscrew it the horse hair doesnt seem to loosen much. is this normal?

Ah  i see,

As for that damper, i thought it sounded better without it. Do i have to put one under the bridge. I was watching a Twelve girls Band dvd i have and it didnt look like they were using a damper either.

Thanks for the emails! those charts are really going to help. However, while watching my vcd, i noticed that it looked like the instructor was using one finger to press on both string instead of different fingers for the two stings. does this make any sense?

Thanks, that clear some things up :) however no i am lost :( those charts you sent me show markings where different fingers pressurize parts of both strings. Or am i interpreting it wrong?

OOHH, alright! i understand now, all is good :) thanks

Im still getting a scratchy sound from my eru, it has rosin, the damper, and the bridge on it, ut i think the problem lies in the fact the a tiny amount of rosin is stuck on the d string

OKAY! im starting to get there, but i have one last thing. I know you said the strings shouldnt be in front of each other, but beside each other when i play. well mine do that, how is this corrected. do i use the left hand fingers to widen the gap between them while playing? or do i need a wider bridge because i have a small circular one.
