I have finally decided on two beginner banjos that I am interested in buying.  Wanted to check with you guys here to see what your opinions of these are and which you would recommend.

Deering Goodtime Banjo--I can get this one for $339.00. Does not have an arm rest but that's a simple matter of taking it to a local luthier to have one installed.  No tone ring either.

Goldtone CC100--I can get this one for $319.00.  It has an arm rest already installed plus it has the tone ring.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You know, I just did a search on the forum and found where someone had replied to one of my first posts about the same question. Forgot I had even posted it. I found the Zeppified version of the Deering to be absolutely what I want.  I have already emailed him for more information--is one in stock.  Still if any of you have any feedback on the Deering Goodtime or the Goldtone CC100, please let me know. I probably won't order until later this afternoon when I get home.

It depends on what you want to spend. We're setting up imported banjos, packaging them with a gig bag, tuner, strap, book & DVD and offering them for $159.95

So there are some deals out there.

I made a video on what to look for in cheap banjos: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yQOx5ptHMRY

And another video going over banjo setup:

Good luck with your search.

I would reckon that there is a considerable difference between a $150 banjo and a $300 banjo, enough to be worth paying for.
