Hi

This is my first post. I am a guitar/bass player  since the 60's. My wife showed an interest in the uke. So I am starting her on a bari.  After much research in my price range. (300. to 400.) I decided on a  Kala Baritone koa cutaway elect. My final decision was between the ohana bari cuttaway elec. (solid top) I asked Music mike his opinion and he said he actually liked the kala ( laminate) better. Better sound acoustically. My critiera for the price was, bari, quality, cutaway, elec.  I will let you know how it voices out.

I own a Alvarez yuri and Martin D28. Along with Martin acoustic/elect bass and Fender Tele. Bass.

So this will be interesting to see how this little guy works for her first ax. I enjoy all your postings.

Talk to you all later.

Chauncey.

Yeah, you never know about laminate tops.  My laminate Oscar Schmidt Koa Concert sounds just amazing.

Thanks for the feedback. We have had the Kala for about 2 weeks now. It sounds really amazing also. Very crisp and responsive, good action. I totally recommend this model for entry level and beyond.

Thanks so much for posting your experiences.  My laminated mahogany Kala baritone sounds very good acoustically, though a step down from your laminates.  It's an inexpensive way to make some good music.

Amplified, it's even better and represents an excellent choice for those on a budget who like a rich deep sound.

Sometimes the rhetoric here about solid tops gets so intense and absolute.  I wonder how the world around me could be so different than the rhetoric.

Anyway, it is good to read about your experiences.
