Emma,

Go to this web, you may finda few songs you can use to learn how to pick. They have the chords along with the music.

Hi Geno,

Sorry, looks like I made a dumb cut/paste error.  When the link fails, just go up to the address bar in your browser and remove the last parentheses ')' from the address and hit enter; should work fine then.   I'll go and see if I can edit my original post as well to correct it.

George

P.S.  I finally got the original post corrected.  Took 3 tries to get the editor to do what I wanted (delete 1 character). I finally deleted the whole link and re-pasted it.  Should work fine now, try again, its a neat little tool.

Emma,

Great news, the answer to all our prayers is in the web site that gddeluca advised you about. The chordfinder page. It has it all... chords, singalongs and you can even print them out. Aslo a audio of the songs. Hope you have been there,

have a good day,

Geno   :D

Hello Softfingers and everyone.  Somehow I am not getting notifications.  I thought I had it set right.  I am a bit slow knowing how to do this stuff. Then I lost track of my pass word.  I am a bit slow knowing how to do this stuff.  Took a long time to locate it.  I am a bit slow knowing how to do this stuff.

So, Softfingers, I guess we all should be grateful I can at leaste sing the songs fast. :P
And no problem with your telling me to slow down. I know it too.  To get a song like I half way want it, I must record it a dozen or more times. So when I get one that I haven't coughed or squeaked or hit a sour note or the doorbell hasn't rung, I grab it fast!

I thank you for referring the links. Thanks to  gddeluca too. I thought I had come to the end of the line on songs. :? Always one more.

How very nice of you to comment back on my Power Points. It took me a long time to decide to post them. I mainly sing and make shows for myself. It is just fun to do and keeps the mind active when the body is a bit slow. I send them to my friends for fun. Beats sending those forward email jokes!!   So I appreciate any feedback. I kind of think I won't be redoing any of them too soon :shock: but will attempt to slow down if I make any new ones. :)

As for the picking of the strings I just sorta pick as pick comes. I find I can't keep my mouth shut when playing so I really don't think my picking when heard could be a melody line or not.  I am sure if I had a couple of real life lessons I could get the AH HA.

I would enjoy your offer of some of your songs (along with a few Tyler roses.)

Hill Country Gal,
emma

I have changed the shows of my Power Point pages. Perhaps you would enjoy the new ones.

Emma,

Nice to hear from you. I am glad you did not get your feelings hurt. I went to that web post and now am learning how to pick and play "Somewhere over the rainbow". please try this song. It would be great with you singing it... and it is easy the way he does it. I had the audio but lost it somehow, not to good at this either. I am also working on "amazing grace"... a bit harder to do.

If you have MS publisher, I will send you the files for the album, hope you can download it and pick some songs. Have you tried any Spanish songs yet? Love the rhythum in them.

I use a finger roll, works good... easy to do.  Try " come a litle bit closer"...or "Spanish Eyes".

Good luck and keep picking and singing.

regards. Geno the Italian cowboy.

Emma,

Not to be a pest but I loved the version of Shenandoah you did... but tell me, how did you add such a long audio file into the power point? I did tons of power point as a commercial artist but never with such long audio. I am saving the others to listen to in my files of Uke music... thank you... and you song much slower... hahahah

just kidding.

George,

Can you help me out, that web page with the chordfinder seems to not work for me. I am trying to go to the audio and sing along location. It just drops out and nothing happens. Is this a "just not working" web site?

It workd fine the first time but I cannot find the login area also.

Hi Geno,

First off, I found the site many years ago and had not re-visited it since then because I'd downloaded the program and just ran it locally whenever I needed to look up some awkward chord.

All the 'play along' stuff that's now present is as new to me as it is to you.   I've tried a few out and its pretty neat. However, the songs are not all consistent, some play fine, some not at all, so I'm not really sure what/where the problem is.

The login icon is just to the right of the list of song titles, or am I misunderstanding your question?

Also, (this for everyone) I've been using a program called ChordPro Manager for years to manage my collection of 'music'.  It handles guitar music in chordpro format (which a lot of Tabs are available in).  Now it doesn't handle 4 string Uke chords, but since I play a Baritone Uke, the tuning is just like a guitar without bass strings, so the printed chord diagrams are still usable.  And since it handles chord transpositions to change key, it been great for altering songs to fit my extremely limited singalong vocal range.

So ....   I've got somewhere around 250+ song files in chordpro format  Given the above descriptions of them, if anyone is interested in them I can Zip them up (asis) and mail them to whoever would like them.  Just let me know.

George

George,

Well, I thank you for the info. However, and this just may be me, but I found by curiosty, some rather distrubing images on that site. I clicked the top most icon on the left and it gave me this page of photos that in this age, are rather bothersome. Adults with children in some strange situations.

Maybe it is just me but I would not go there again. I believe they are from some forgien country, most likely Sweden or whatever. I never got to the singalong again anyway.

I find that osmetimes I can not wait to try out new tunes and since I have no voice, I just pick and enjoy the uke. I like finger picking mostly. I guess being an old geezer, I like that style. Remember Chet Akins and the older guitar players?

Thanks for the info, if you want to send me anything in music, I will enjoy trying them. Send to:

gerotheman@wmconnect.com

Hi Geno,

I'd never really browsed the main part of the site. Yes, its rather weird, but I didn't find anything particularly obnoxious (but maybe I didn't hit the parts you did). The site seems very oriented to film shorts etc. so no doubt there's some stuff in there that many would find objectionable.  The Dutch are pretty liberal.

Like a good part of the web there's good and bad; when you find something upsetting you just don't go back.  I'd only ever visited the Uke section myself, I'm sorry the other areas were upsetting.

I'll send you the stuff I've got, but its all chord tabs, no finger picking tabs.  If its at all useful - great, if not - delete it.

George

I record my songs with the recorder that comes with Windows. Even a minute long song can be huge! I knew I could never send a song to friends that way. I was using dial up as were many of my friends and that would have been impossible.  I fiddled with the recorder and found I could save songs to a MPEG whatever that is and cut the size tremendously.  I think most of my Power Points with songs and graphics rarely go over 5 or 600 KB.

I received your song in the Word file.  Thanks!! I think your book will be great with the chords in that forum.  Sure am glad I am getting in on the ground floor.  ;)
You sent a song I had never done so be prepared...for better or worse. :P

Would enjoy any other songs you can send.  If you need chords for a song...who knows I just might have.

Emma,

I just sent you a song. I love the simple chord changes and it is easy to find the notes and rhytum so you can pick the melody. Send me an audio if you can. Love to hear you sing this one.

I wonder if anyone tried to put 2 voices together, like a duet? I mean from another email address.

Good luck.

heat here in Texas is bad, but we sure had rain, right?

I received your email with the song.  Thanks.  But when I tried to send something in return, I kept getting a return mail.  Something saying you were not accepting email from my address...I think:box2:

I am posting here several songs that I have been working on.  One of them is the one you sent me last time.  You probably won't recognize it.:sad3:

I just found the extra smileys :woohoo:

I have been working on some more old old love songs. I don't know if anybody really writes or sings love songs anymore. I sure haven't heard any. Hope I'm not getting too old to recognize them. ;)  But here are a few that were usually successful for me. :)   Thanks to Geno for sending the Blue Moon chords.

Thanks for the link.
I have a friend who reads recipes from the net. She loves the cookbooks and is always looking at links for new ways to cook things.  NOW she really never cooks anything new. She just enjoys paging through and looking at ideas hoping she will see some little thing she might like.

I guess that is the way I am with reading things about the uke. I rarely do anything anybody suggests or buy products etc etc.  But I love reading about them and am always open to that one little idea that I might be able to use. :):)

School is almost ready to begin again and as a former teacher I can't help but think about it. :(  I even dream about it sometime.:shock:

So I put together some little songs about school.
One of my other hobbies besides playing the uke and singing is making little web pages.  I am not real good at any of the three, but for me it is fun to just be mediocre at a bunch of things than real good at one. :P
