Hi Gang,
My lovely wife bought me a solid mahogany Ko’olau Pono for Christmas.  I love it.  It came from Music Guy Mike who was pleasure to do business with.  The Uke arrived in 4 business days from Hawaii.  The mahogany has a nice ribbon grain.  The binding, and peg head overlay are ebony.  Nut and saddle are bone.  There is a very nice understated ebony and rosewood rosette with what looks like maybe boxwood accents.  I don't like gaudy so that is OK with me.   I also like the matte finish which does not get all messed up with fingerprints.  Fret board is rosewood with nicely polished and finished frets.  No sharp ends.  Under saddle pickup is Fishman I believe.  The action is low and easy to play and the intonation is excellent.  The strings are Ko’olau Gold. tuners are sealed black button Grover.  It came with one of those generic fabric over foam hard cases.  The sound is woody, and warm to my ears.  I feel like this uke has a lot more "uke sound" than many baritones I've heard.   Mike even threw in a case humidifier.  This is a lot of Uke for under $400.00 including shipping.

Now for the very slight problems I found.  I have found that the neck fastening straps on these generic cases are very weak.  After you have fastened and unfastened them a few times they pull out.  They are only glued in.  The manufacturer could solve this easily by using a one piece fabric/Velcro cable tie instead of two pieces glued it.

I found one spot near the top binding on the side of the uke that has a rough feel to it.  I think it is just a tiny finish problem. It is less than an inch long and very narrow.

Here is a link to my humble attempt at Ukulele Lady.  I hope this will give you an idea of how the instrument sounds.  I don’t have the best of recording outfits.

Hey Fred,  You did a fine job on the song and the Pono baritone does sound good, I have had the same baritone as you have and for the money,  you can't find one any better and buying from music Guy Mike is a good place to buy from also.

I pulled the felcro off my case with in a hour of haveing it also, but no big deal

Thanks for sharing the music and review

Charlie

Fred, The uke sounds great and so does your singing.  I love this song.  Have you heard Victoria Vox's recording of it?

No Preston, I have not heard the Victoria Vox version.  I'd like to.
