April 2007 marks the first public release by Australian folk singer-songwriter Jay Fraser, an album of songs entitled 'Losing Home'. The songs have been recorded as Jay plays them and as he wrote them, bare bones and acoustic. The album embarks on a raw journey of losing home and in doing so finding it, in the places it can be lost or found, including in our heads & in our beds.

The release of 'Losing Home' marks a major shift in the status and direction of the Tasmanian born artist, from relative obscurity to "hey, this guy's got an album".

Jay has enjoyed both local & national attention for his unique and heartfelt songwriting. Locally, he received merits for his songwriting as a finalist in the esteemed Tasmanian Folk Federation Songwriting Contest of 2006.

National recognition came when one of Jay's songs was featured on the John Law's Rising Star competition home page in 2005. It came more recently in early 2007 when his song 'Come Sweet Home' was played on the popular youth radio station Triple J, this came as a result of being discovered on the Unearthed website by Rosie Beaton. In addition to this, Jay has performed live sets on two community radio stations in Hobart, 7THE & Edge. His music enjoys airplay on various community radio stations around Australia.

Jay has only been performing on the live scene since mid 2005, but in this short amount of time his live performances have grown from acoustic singer-songwriter evenings to, in early 2007, performing at the international Tamar Valley Folk Festival and also the Taste of Tasmania. Now a regular performer on the Tasmanian original music scene, Jay has also scored support slots for touring Australian artists such as Edward Guglielmino & Dan Dinnen.

In mid 2007, Jay will be embarking on a European tour and is already on the bill for a couple of festivals in the UK, Filey Folk Festival (27-29 July) and Cottingham Springboard Festival (10-12 August).

    Hello Jay.

Very nice. I liked these songs a lot, and you do them well.

Not bad for a Taswegian anyway.

I'll keep an eye out for you in Melb.

    Cheers Hip.
