I'm very new to banjo, but have played fingerstyle guitar for years. I have never used picks with guitar, so the banjo picks feel unnatural and are very difficult for me. I seem to get an ok banjo sound just using my fingers. Is this a bad idea for a beginner?
Thanks for your help and my compliments on a really great web site. I'll be a regular.

Hi Pete, and welcome to ezFolk!
You're fine playing without picks if you're not planning on playing in a bluegrass group, but if your ultimate goal is to play hardcore bluegrass you'll want to gradually get used to the picks. The fingerpicks felt funny to me also when I first started but after practicing with them for a while they start to feel natural (just like anything else).
I like Dunlop metal fingerpicks because you can get them in different thicknesses, so if you get very light ones you can easily mold them to the shape of your fingers. You can probably find them at your local music store.
For my thumbpick I use an Acri, which is great. You can find them here...

I haven't tried their fingerpicks but they're probably really good also. The Acri thumbpick isn't tight at all but stays on very well and the design is such that it never gets hung up in the strings.
