Richard, Michael, the beast arrived this afternoon.  Being a clawhammer player, I immediately realized I would need to make a couple of adjustments.

I regrooved the second string at the nut to move it closer to the first string, about the typical spacing as a banjo.  I also took some electric guitar strings with ball ends and put a 12 on the first string and a 23 on the second. I left the third (fifth) string as is.  I put a washcloth under the head just to dampen a bit of the ring.

Then I started playing.  The first tune that popped out was Oh Susanna, don't know why, never played it before. Come to think of it, I think that's the first tune I ever played on a mountain dulcimer 30 years ago. Hmmm.   Then Angeline The Baker just started playing itself.

I turned on my computer mic and recorded it.  I just put it up on the MP3 side of the house.  Please listen.   Unfortunately this is a first take and you can hear my mistakes.  My fingers got confused from the 5-string.

I just wanted you guys and some of the other listeners to hear what a dulcijo sounds like two hours out of the box.  I think the UPS driver that delivered it could play this thing.

I will post more songs when I get my recorder set up to make real recordings.:2banjo2:

Wow James... that's fantastic! I can tell you've been around the horn a few times as a clawhammer banjo player. We'll be looking forward to hearing more Dulcijo as well as whatever else you play.

If you want people to listen it's always best to include a direct link to your song, like this...

play hi-bitrate (mp3) (broadband)
play lo-bitrate (mp3) (dial-up)
download hi-bitrate (1.1 MB)

That's a simple copy and paste that you can read about in a message from Tony Provencher. Take a look...

Also, you can add a signature file easily for the forums (like mine below) and include your MP3 address and whatever else you'd like to add. Just click on "My Account" above then click on "Profile" and it's at the bottom of the page.

Oh! my goodness James, That is great playing, I can tell that you have been a banjo player awhile,  Great job on the Dulcijo,

That little instrument is a fun thing to play and easy learning tool for some one like me to learn clawhammer on, But my style sounds more like thrashing, You are coming tru real clear and percise and look for more songs from you soon.

Hey, James,
Thanks for the tune and the tips. I just got my Dulcijo last week, too.
I've never played the banjo before and your suggestions are helpful.  I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
I posted my first little tune over on "the other side"; more less to set a benchmark.
This is an awesome site.

Cheers,
dadgad

Hey dadgad,

That sounds great! Good to hear some new Dulcijo music! Be sure to include a link to your songs so people can listen to them. You can do a copy (CTRL-C) from your MP3 page and paste it (CTRL-V) here like this...

The Trillium Patch by dadgad:

play hi-bitrate (mp3) (broadband)
play lo-bitrate (mp3) (dial-up)

Thanks for posting!
