i picked this uke up at motor city guitar, here in michigan, about two or three years ago. i paid $79 for it . it was perhaps on sale because they don't sell many ukes in this area. they were somewhat stunned when i picked it up and started playing it. the quote i believe was "christ,,,,you know how to play that damn thing" anyway i like the apperance of the ou3 , it reminds me of many guitars i've owned with the spruce top and shiny finish. its trimmed out nicely in mother of pearl and is quite pleasing to the eye. not in the classic uke satin or mat finish . true it has plywood soundboard and i imagine the rest of it is ply too. its very playable and i really like the sound of it. nice and full sounding with a soft long ringing note. volume is quite good . abd all the frets seem well in tuned position. it has good quality tuning machines with open gears.after draggin it around in my jeep and boat its held up well and still looks as it did when i first got it. i keep it at my desk at work now and play during my breaks. im quite happy with this uke. i don't know the typical retail on it but would buy another if anything happens to this one.

The OU3 was one of my first ukes. I agree that it is incredibly solid and quite pretty, but I actually prefer the OU2 which is cheaper. The finish on the OU3 was so thick I thought it sort of killed the sound, It had a nice tone but I noticed (especially when playing it outside) that it didn't seem to project much. The sound mostly stayed in the instrument, a little more dead and with a lack of resonance. For the price though, it's very cool. I often wish I still had mine but I'm pretty strictly into sopranos anyway. The only concert scale uke I have is my Johnson resonator because it is the only size they make and I haven't been able to afford a steel National soprano reso uke (yet.) Oh-- one thing that helped my OU3 was changing out the strings. The stock strings were terrible, though I like thicker gauges of strings generally.
