Hey there, now I was wondering . . . does anyone have any creative ways of transporting a banjo via bike? I saw a fellow (not on his bike) the other day with a banjo case which was worn like a backpack-- does anyone know where I could find something like this? I thought it might work, but possibly would hang down too low and bump up against the back of the seat. Any other ideas? Bungee cords, multiple straps, mounting platforms-- all welcome. Thanks a lot!

The best way to transport a banjo on a bike is to pack it inside a thick padded gig bag with backpack straps.  Trying to attach the banjo to any part of the bike frame will subject the banjo to every bump and impact you encounter, and you will constantly worry about it slipping out of position or falling off, which will distract you from watching traffic, and increase your chances of being involved in a traffic accident.  This banjo gig bag made by Superior, show below, is only $30.  (I have one of their mandolin gig bags and it's really well made.)

Hey-- thanks a lot for that link. Looks like a nice bag. And yes, good point about it being distracting. Now I wasn't thinking of anything ridiculous, but even if I had a pretty sturdy set up I can't imagine it being entirely non-precarious. I've been putting off buying a banjo case/bag 'cause I'm a cheapskate, but it sounds like it's time to invest in one.

The above Superior banjo gig bag is only $30 - which is quite reasonable for a good gig bag.  I have the same brand of gig bag for my mandolin.

Of course, the best way to transport a banjo on a bike is to play it! ;)
