Any fans of OCMS what style of banjo do they play? Clawhammer or what? I'm too tone deaf to hear it - :)

Old Crow Medicine Show is a Nashville-based band playing what might be described as contemporary country.  I am not familiar with the group, but I did visit their web site and watched their videos.   Based upon what I've seen, their banjo player(s) are not playing clawhammer because they are using what appear to be flatpicks and are playing resonator 5-string banjo and 6-string guitar banjo (see the banjitar played on the "Down Home Girl" video), nor are they playing bluegrass.

I see this post is very old

Am a fan of OMCS and have seen em live, the banjos they have in their line up varies but there is always one 6 string banjo and either one or two 5 strings. Of the 5 strings one of em seems to pick and the other is doing clawhammer. The guy frailing also plays slide and the guy picking also plays fiddle.

A great band to see live - i recommend it

They seem to like the key of D - often playing in C with a capo at the second fret

Cheers

thanks my friend. Nice to hear an opinion by someone who is familiar with the band.

Never seen them - they've played in the UK a few times (where I am from) but never up here in darkest Finland (where I now live).

Hey dude/ette that was a quick response;)

Am in the middle of trying to sing and play 'we're all in this together' - it seems to be taking forever to get comfortable singing it.

OMCS are the band that got me back into the banjo - i like their mix of old time and blues a lot. I was at their gig at Kings College in london - really good.

Have met a few Fins - i work with Nokia equipment - hope you got your thermal underwear on this time of year :)

Cheers

Roj
