I think those Sagas are great value. They sound and look great. I like the short scale banjorine that they make too.

Well your recommendation was one that put me over the top. It's play very well. Once I get some Waverly's up top it will be just perfect. Proof once again that you don't need a lot of money to get a playable instrument.

I just decided to start playing banjo after years on guitar. A bit of advice from a local folk musician, Fergus O'Byrne, and googling, and I found a Washburn B120 open-back on ebay for well below cost price, from a reputable dealer in Illinois. Shipped to Newfoundland in Canada, and I must say, I pulled it out of the case, tuned it up, and started playing. I'm a beginner, but it seems easy to play, sounds great, looks great and feels great.

There do not seem to be any other reviews of this banjo on the web, so I'll be the first to say that I'm pleased. There are lots of comments about foreign-made vs American-made, but this banjo appears to be an all-around winner for me. True to the Washburn website, it looks and feels like an old banjo. It stays in tune, has a lovely mellow and woody sound for me, and with finger picks, my family can attest that it gets plenty loud!

I play in a gospel band, and this is my mid-life crisis.... so let's hope it serves well for years to come....

My first was an import from the 80's and just recently (2 years ago) I bought another import from about that time and also a Harmony banjo from the 50's or 60's(quite a nice Banjo) but sold all of those when I bought my Deering Goodtime(resonator style) and really like it.

I am new here and new to the banjo. I just bought a Gold Tone CC-100R+ . It has a bright tone being bone stock and is a Dark brown color. I think I will be very pleased with it. The action is nice compared to my old washburn box guitar.

A circa 1940 Gibson Oriole Tenor open back that I found in an attic and a student grade Cameo 5 string that has an interesting laminated neck.

I spent a decade experimenting with differerent combinations of Stewart-MacDonald banjos, and have since stuck with two of their 5-strings made with their own archtop tone ring, which is heavier and more resonant than the Mastertone archtop.

One has a bell bronze resonator flange and the other a zinc flange, that's the only difference yet you can really tell the difference in the sound. After playing them all I don't like the mushiness of a flathead, I have to go archtop.

I heartily recommend making your own from their parts, the quality can't be beat and all you really have to do is sand and finish.

My banjo is a Mastercraft Maple Classic, I only live a few minutes from Banjohut went in one day looking he had this one with a broken Resonator, got a great deal on it, removed that and the flange, put on new bridge adjusted the head and neck a bit and I think I have a good playing / sounding Old-Time Banjo. I have thought about scooping the neck but don't want to kill it, can't afford another one anytime soon. My dream banjo is a longneck tubaphone. But I know it's not the banjo it's the feller playing it.

Since I first posted I sold the Goodtime and replaced it with a long-neck banjo from Noho Banjo in Northampton, MA. Great for my singing as I do well with the keys of E and F.

I have a Fender FB-58 (Korean model) - I bought it from a fella on banjobuyer.com - He made a fair deal with me :)

It is really lovely  - Someday, I will be able to play it as nicely as it looks.
