I just started playing ukulele about two weeks ago. I have no prior musical experience. I'm a freshman at Duke University. I'm just curious what are the CUKES? And where do you guys meet? Is this a South Carolina or North Carolina thing?
Thanks.

Brett

Brett,

Welcome to ezFolk!!!

Chris or Richard will likely reply soon, but in the meantime visit http://www.ezfolk.com/cukes/

Cukes is a neat group of very nice people interested in learning, playing and promoting ukulele music.  Members are of all skill levels and though a new person might feel a bit intimidated, there is no reason to feel that way.  Everyone I have met has been very helpful in assisting others (like me) to learn and improve.  Be sure to make a meeting or two, I expect you'll be glad you did, and be back for more.

Hi Brett,

Tiki Joe covered it pretty well except he didn't mention where we meet. The meeting is in your area and you can find a map of exactly where by going to the Cukes site that TJ gave the address of.

Everybody is welcome regardless of your skill level. It's just a fun time to get together with other uke players. My wife and I travel about 150 miles to get there and it's always worth the trip (although we don't always make it).

Hope to meet you there!

Welcome, Brett!  Joe & Richard covered it!  I hope you'll join us next time we meet, which will probably be in April, since we meet every other month.  Our last gathering was really good and Kurt not only brought a mini bass to accompany us, but also gave us a blues lesson, which was great.

Looking forward to meeting you!  BTW-our location is just off I-40 and Hwys 54 & 55 in Durham/RTP, which is one exit past Southpoint Mall.

Chris

I'm afraid I wouldn't have much to contribute, but is it ok to go just for the learning experience and to listen?
