1four5 mentioned this would be a good co-op song and I agree. There are already 3 different MP3s of it on ezFolk and it would be great it if some people would record and upload their own versions. Let's hear what it sounds like on some other instruments (ukulele, guitar, dulcimer, or whatever).

I did away with the "co-op" genre a while back (too confusing), but just upload it to whatever genre is appropriate for your MP3 then post a message in this thread and give us a link to your HiFi and LoFi recording.

Here are links to the three that are already online...

1four5 - HiFi - LoFi

Loose Change and Friends - HiFi - LoFi

Richard Hefner - HiFi - LoFi

Here are the chords and lyrics that Dean posted in another message...

G
DOWN THE ROAD HERE FROM ME THERE'S AN OLD HOLLOW TREE
          C                    G
WHERE YOU LAY DOWN A DOLLAR OR TWO

IF YOU HUSH UP YOUR MUG THEY WILL FILL UP YOUR JUG
               D7           G
WITH THAT GOOD OLD MOUNTAIN DEW

               - - CHORUS - -

     G
THEY CALL IT THAT GOOD OLD MOUNTAIN DEW
    C                       G
AND THEM THAT REFUSE IT ARE FEW

YOU MAY GO ROUND THE BEND
                                            D7       G
BUT YOU'LL COME BACK AGAIN FOR THE GOOD OLD MOUNTAIN DEW

       G
WAY UP ON THE HILL THERE'S AN OLD WHISKEY STILL
        C                     G
THAT IS RUN BY A HARD WORKING CREW

YOU CAN TELL IF YOU SNIFF AND YOU GET A GOOD WHIFF
                         D7           G
THAT THEY'RE MAKING THAT OLD MOUNTAIN DEW

               - - CHORUS - -

        G
THE PREACHER CAME BY WITH A TEAR IN HIS EYE
        C                     G
HE SAID THAT HIS WIFE HAD THE FLU

WE TOLD HIM HE OUGHT TO GIVE HER A QUART
             D7           G
OF THAT GOOD OLD MOUNTAIN DEW

               - - CHORUS - -

       G
MY BROTHER MORT IS SAWED OFF AND SHORT
       C                   G
HE MEASURES JUST FOUR FOOT TWO

BUT HE THINKS HE'S A GIANT WHEN THEY GIVE HIM A PINT
             D7           G
OF THAT GOOD OLD MOUNTAIN DEW

               - - CHORUS - -

     G
MY UNCLE BILL HAS A STILL ON THE HILL
         C                    G
WHERE HE RUNS OFF A GALLON OR TWO

THE BIRDS IN THE SKY GET SO HIGH THEY CAN'T FLY
             D7           G
ON THAT GOOD OLD MOUNTAIN DEW

               - - CHORUS - -

        G
MY AUNT JANE HAS A BRAND NEW PERFUME
       C                       G
IT HAS SUCH A SWEET SMELLING P U

IMAGINE HER SURPRISE WHEN SHE HAD IT ANALYZED
            D7           G
IT WAS GOOD OLD MOUNTAIN DEW

               - - CHORUS - -

Not promising anything, but Cmac, Tim3finger, myself and several others are planning a summer jam in a couple weeks...we are hoping to do a live version, if we can get our "studio" together:2band1::2band2:

OK-

Here is my contribution to the current co-op song:

http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?band_id=5&song_id=2278&mode=song_lofi

http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?band_id=5&song_id=2278&mode=song_hifi

(Incidentally, Richard, the Co-op genre is still listed in the genre section when uploading a song)

Very nice Brad... Glad to see there's still at least a tiny bit of interest in a co-op song. I had removed the co-op listing from the chart page already but forgot to remove it from inside the MP3 section so it could still be chosen as a genre. I just went in and removed it.

I also changed your song name by removing the parenthesis, so now it's just "Good Ol' Mountain Dew." There were several other songs by other artists that I changed as well. The problem is that songs beginning with parentheses or apostrophes are all listed out of alphabetical order in the "Songs A-Z" list, so now they're listed correctly.

:hat:

For you, maybe!

I still can't do straight forward roll (TITM) for more than 15 seconds without messing it up :(

Let alone find the melody line in it

Bluegrass is beyond my abilities (Banjo, that is).

:2banjo: Keep on pickin'
Brad

ps. Sorry, Richard, I should know better. I have done enough programming to know how things sort in silicon! Mea Culpa :hammer:

For daring ears only, I have uploaded a very different version of the co-op song.

Can you find the subtle differences between my original version and this one?

I called this one Mountain Dewy Uke

:shoot: Gosh, was it that bad? Did it frighten people away from the site, or just make people so ill they can't provide their own takes on the song?

Maybe I better take it down!

When my buddy James and I were thinking about what song to record this past weekend, we were both thinking "Mountain Dew." So here's our answer to the ezfolk co-op song "Good Ol' Mountain Dew"

http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/549/music.php

We debated the use of a mandolin, harmonica, jew's harp, additional vocals, but we ended up sticking with this stripped down ukulele/bass version. I hope we get to do a song soon utilizing everything at our disposal. But sometimes the Lone Star makes things more difficult than they should be.

We also did "Butter Beans," which needed a lot more work...but then again, so did that bottle of whisky, so we had to decide.

http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/549/music.php

I enjoy constructive criticism, anything helps.

Thank Ya'll

Lonestar, huh?
Kinda reminds me of my days at Lackland, only we tended to prefer Pearl (I know, it didn't come in longnecks!)
Long time ago . . . . (how do you fade off into reverie in text?) :P

Butter Beans, I like that one, you should post the lyrics in the song info, I'm interested in pickin' that one up.

Ahhh, the joys of Pearl.

I lived down the street from the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio for a couple of years, but then it burned down, and one of the major distributors bought the brewing rights. Kind of the same story with Lone Star.

Lyrics to "Butter Beans" have been posted, and it looks like they might have originally been written by Little Jimmie Dickens??? But it was my Pops who gave me the lyrics that he knew from his days of hellstorming the nightclubs in Atlanta (If you consider singing a song like "Butter Beans" hellstorming).

Thanks for the comments guys. I wish I could fingerpick like ya'll. The "power strumming" is quite an endurance test for songs over a minute...but I guess it's the same for the ol' fingers too?

Hey Brad,  Did I detect as you were playing your jay harp that I heard it hit your tooth,

As a kid growing up I had one and I remember poping my front teeth with it, Any time I hear one, That is what I remember.

I really enjoy all your music and all the other people also on this web site, I have never learned how to transport any music to this site so I just listen and enjoy all of you, Seems like I get to Knowing all of you.  Have been keeping up with the Kansas Boys as they progess with the banjo's and ukulele.  Big thanks to Richard for putting so much time and efford to this site.

Ever one keep on Strumming.   Charlie:dude:

Charlie-

Thanks for the nice words :D Yeah, I bounced the harp off my teeth a time or two, but I'm gettin' better - now I am trying to get more sound into it. I should be able to make all the vowel sounds, according to the NLCR (at least that's what they say on Chicken In The Straw).

Can you record onto your computer? If you can, you can use WinAmp or MusicMatch Juke box to process the file into a .mp3 file. Then, just set up an Audiohosting site (follow the directions under "new artist signup." Then follow the "create new song" instructions, and, voila! You're a folk star

Jackie-
Thanks, I did a straight strum background, a clawhammer uke, and the jawharp on this one. The uke is a cheapie, but for what I use it for, it works.

Brad

Thanks for the info, I will check into setting up my computer, I do have a mic but did not know what kind of soft ware that it would require to do these things, I will keep trying as I am new to alot of the computer terms and still learning about these things,

Charlie

Hey Charlie!

I use software called "Cakewalk" that I got on sale at Comp USA. For a mic, I just use an old computer voice mic left over from my computer gaming days...it was only a few bucks at Radio Shack. Not the best quality...but works perfect for what we like doing, and that's having fun.

I have been reading a lot lately about a free recording software called Audacity. I belong to a blues forum, and that's what a lot of those guys use for recording. Check it out here:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Speaking of Mountian Dew, we did record a full blown live recording of it last weekend with two guitars, banjo, bass, and Mandolin. It was recorded on one of those pocket recorders that uses a mini disc. It's pretty rough quality...but whenever we figure out how to convert a mini disc to an MP3...hopefully we can post it.

Hey 1four5,  Thanks for the info also,  I checked today and a lady had a recording and she said she was using a simple system called M-Audio Fast Track and her song sounded good and that was her first song and recording.  I went ahead and ordered it. hope it works out for me and I will try and get a few songs sent.  I play bluegrass and any thing I can play,  Not real good on any thing, but as you stated, Its just alot of fun.  I am a retired A&P Mechanic and looking for something to do,

I keep up with you Aviation mechanic and your music keeps getting better and sounds like you are having  ball.

Keep them strings a humming

Charlie

Hey thanks Charlie!

There's plenty of experience here to get you going on recording! If it wasn't for Cmac and my lovely Wife...I would still be living in the 70's...computers hate me, so I guarentee if I can figure it out, anyone can!:)

Hey, I've got my A&P as well! Went to Spartian in 79...then did 6 years at Cessna in Wichita...before going to the big jets:cool:

Loose Change & Friends does all of its recordings (live concerts and practices) with a portable Sony minidisc recorder.  With decent microphones and an audio mixer, you can export your minidisc recordings to your computer to make excellent quality CDs or MP3s, using recording software, which you already have (Cakewalk, which I also use).  Unfortunately, minidisc recorders no longer have digital outputs, so you have to route the analog output into your computer soundcard, using Cakewalk (NOT the Windows sound recorder software, which is junk), which records it as a .WAV file.  The next step is to trim the single sound file into usable tracks, and discard the in-between-tracks noise and chit-chat.  You can also apply digital effects such as track fade-in and fade-out (good for cleaning up a rough song start or ending) reverb, equalization, noise reduction, etc.  Cakewalk can also normalize (balance) the volume between different tracks, and can batch convert your .WAV files into MP3s.

All of our tracks posted here were recorded with the above set-up.  We use a mixture of microphones (banjo, mandolin, vocals), and transducer pickups (guitar, autoharp), routed through a Fender Passport PA amp.

Yeah, but when you start with the stand-alone studio stuff, you start talkin' $$$.

I had used the two I mentioned earlier, but then tried the free evaluation copy of n-Track http://www.ntrack.com and wound up buying the $45 version (a couple of years ago). I wanted to try audacity, but it didn't work too well on my older computer, so I have stuck with n-Track.

I bought "The Complete Idiout's Guide to Home Recording", and attempted to load the free Pro Tools program, but my hard drives aren't DMA -able, so I have returned to n-Track. (Finally figured out how to pan tracks, so I can start being a little more professional now.
