We play this in ensemble in the orchestra I'm in. When 14 fiddles are sawing away, my function to provide rythem and grace notes between their melody and written harmony. The mandolins (three of them now) play melody, The tenor banjo and guitars play backup. The hammered dulcimer does whatever pops into his inventive head. A keyboard picker frames chords and sets the tempo.

With the orch, I play with fingerpicks. But it's a good frailing tune. So here it is a little faster than dance tempo. It is in D-major if anyone wants to add a guitar part or a fiddle?

If that doesn't work, try my MP3 section. Gaspe Reel is the top tune.

55 people and no response. As we know, that means no one wants to say anything. (D'uh) Or I really missed the boat and the piece fails. Can someone giveme a hint. If the latter is the case, I'll with-draw it.

Phil-

I downloaded it, listened, and thought about it, but . . .

I would have to find the notes somewhere and try to learn it on fiddle, and right now time is tight. I am just getting started on putting together a 2-hour clawhammer workshop to be followed by a 45 minute performance later that evening, so I need to pull that all together - outlining the workshop and figuring out how many and which tunes/songs to use to use up 3/4 hours of an audience's time. I hope to use all three instruments during the evening - should be interesting and fun!

Brad

Phil -

Standard notation is what I use for fiddle! You have my email, right?

It seems that it is hard to get a response any more and I am finding it hard to get around on the site now,  I have not been able to get to my page in 2 weeks now it seems and I had a hard time finding your tune till a few minutes ago,   most likely it is me.

Another thing might be the weather and people are staying outside except for where Brad lives and people out west.

Phil your tune is above my head and I can't read music so I want try to add anything, But it sounds good.

Charlie

Brad, I did have it. But can't find it. Thanks for the kind words Charlie. Let's see if this comes through. This is the basic version we base our piece on. There is a more complex version in the Fiddler's Fake Book (an excellent compendia, by the way.)

And a big oops for mispelling the name of the piece (and the place) in the title bar. It is Gaspe. Not Gespe.
