On the Creek Video Showcase May 28, 2008 " Are you ready for a Rock and Roll Party"?

This weeks Video Showcase features: The CCPO on Contrary Creek . It features Shack and Semp and the first Contrary Creek Prospectors Organization's first meeting, followed shortly by the "Rock and Roll Party"

http://www.au-prospecting.com/gold/viewtopic.php?t=2549

Our Feature musician is Preston Lloyd, performing " The Big Rock Candy Mountain" and he's playing it on a ukulele. I love this tune.

You can hear more of Preston Lloyd at his EZ Folk web address: http://ezfolk.com/audio/bands/1072/

This one is a little interesting. What you are seeing is this, Contrary Creek is home to the Tinder Flats Goldmine (1825 vintage)and the Sulpher Mine, which is upstream. In the early 1900s the sulpher mine produced over half of the United State's production of sulphuric acid. That mine has been leaking into Contrary Creek ever since then, which has turned everything orange.

The rocks  we are throwing are all mine tailings from the Tinder Flats Gold Mine. For decades people have gone there and dug holes in the bank and left small piles of rocks from their gold prospecting activities. It has been so unsightly that many of us refused to go there, even though it still produces alot of gold.

A few months ago, one person, Shack, got fed up and convinced the land owner to lease the property to him and he committed to cleaning the mess up. He created the Contrary Creek Prospectors Organization and the only price you have to pay  to prospect there is to join the club and agree to the rules ( no digging in the bank, no leaving rock piles, fill your holes, etc.) and spend 6 hours in the year to property maintenence.

We spent 2 hours that day filling holes and I couldn't believe how nice the place looked afterwards. We still have a lot of work to do, but this is the rusult of one prospector who made a difference.

Thanks

Tinpan

Thanks!

Hope you didn't have too much trouble with sulpheric acid leach - that looked like hot and heavy work, but you start to see the improvement you mentioned.

Preston - been awhile since I checked on your stuff - you've come a long ways! Impressive.

Brad

You made a great job of the whole thing, from clean up to video and song. Well done.

Hi Banjo Brad,

Not too much problems with the Sulphuric acid leak.

The temperature is another story though. We went back june 6th and 7th and the air temperature was 97 , humidity was 94 and the water temperature was 93 degress. It was like dredging in a hot tub.

We've built our video/song video library up to over 30 of them. It's making for a nice archive.

I'm actually getting a little closer to my goal, being able to prospect during the day and play music at night.

here's this weeks video:

http://www.au-prospecting.com/videos/VA%20Gold%20On%20the%20Creek%20cvgp%20May%202008%20low%20res.wmv

This is one of my prospecting buddies, who, it turns out is a pretty good mandolin player. I was able to actually able to play along with him for abour 20 seconds before it all fell apart. :) oh well, I just need a few more hundred hours of practicing. It was fun though.

We're getting there

Another nice job!

I also really liked the one with Chip & Tish - I didn't see that one posted here.

Have you thought about putting these up on YouTube? I think you'd get a lot of hits, and I wouldn't have to go hit your archives to try to download them all to my harddrive. :)

Hi Brad,

I've thought about it but it didn't seem right to me since it's not my music. I hope that folks that like them will post them on their websites, especially since they are the ones playing the music.

All I do is just make them and hope people enjoy them.

It is doing one thing interesting though. So far it's just been Jack Gold with his guitar and me with my banjo. We can't play with each other...yet. Dewboy showed up with his mandolin and he can follow me if I don't miss too many notes. Jack can follow Dewboy, so if Dewboy shows up we can kind of sort of sometimes play for a little bit together.

This weekend will be interesting because Gravel is showing up with his guitar and next week Au2U is showing up with his new acoustic bass. So this should be real interesting.

The funny thing is that since I'm the least experienced and I'm playing banjo and I can't follow anyone, they don't have any choice but to either sit and watch me hack and whack or join in. :hammer:

Now, Dewboy knows old time music and I'm learning it, but no one else knows it so again, I can take off on a song and watch them try to follow.

Then just for pure fun, I'll change a song in the middle of it and just watch sheer destruction go on. I know I shouldn't do it, but man is it funny:jumpingjacks:. I have a really warped sense of humor.

We're hitting the Slate River tomorrow through Sunday and I have a new underwater video camera, so i should have some cool footage.

I wasn't sure about posting videos on here is the music is from somewhere else. I tend to hold back for fear of making anyone mad at me. :2worry:

Anyway, ya'll have a great weekend
