Posting  Song Links
a tutorial

Many questions have arisen concerning posting song links to the ezFolk Forum.

I have created a tutorial for the purpose of answering those questions as thoroughly and clearly as possible.

Click on the banner below to see the tutorial.

I consider this a work-in-progress, so any comments or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Richard has also created a 'Testing' forum where we can practice and experiment
posting links, attachments, formatting, etc.

Enjoy!

Tony,

This tutorial is fantastic! Thanks for doing such a great job of thoroughly explaining everyting. I hope everybody will read it. I didn't know about getting the link from the MP3 player and that's one I'll definitely start using.

Merci Beaucoup!

Great tutorial, Tony!  Thanks for all the time and thought you've put into this project.

I've discovered that if you use Netscape 7.0 (or higher version - earlier versions of Netscape will crash trying to display the Cobalt theme) rather than Internet Explorer, right clicking the mouse on the song links displayed in the Cobalt theme will generate a different menu that will allow you to choose "Copy Link Location."

I have recently switched to Firefox, and found the same is true.  I will be revising the tutorial when I get a chance.

I've just discovered that Internet Explorer allows you to copy individual song links from a playlist generated by the Radio Station option.

Bravo Tony!

Tu es quelqu'un plein de ressources!

Je regrette de ne pas maitriser l'anglais un peu plus pour pouvoir bénéficier de ton fantastique travail.

Another tip: Use Windows Media Player to extract the song link

Since the current "Cobalt" theme doesn't allow easy copying of audio links, I've discovered that if your computer automatically opens them in Windows Media Player, you can go to the upper left of the screen, click on "File," scroll down and select "Properties" and the audio link will be displayed in a window.  Then, highlight and copy the link from the window.

Thank you, Will.

If anyone has any questions about Will's suggestion, this technique is explained and illustrated in depth in  Copying Song Links in 'Cobalt' - mp3 Player Method in the turorial.

If anyone else has any good tips, please share them here.  I will be updating the tutorial from time to time, and would love any input to improve it.

Thanks, Holley.  I'm very pleased to hear that the tutorial is successfully fulfilling its purpose.

I'd just like to reiterate:  If any one has any suggestions for improving this tutorial, please feel free to post them here, and I will do what I can to include them in any revisions I make to the tutorial.

Hi, ezFolks,

I have revised the tutorial to reflect the ezFolk template change, and to add a couple tidbits of new information.

Please let me know if you see any errors, or if you have any suggestions for improvement.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Tony,

do you have a section for radio stations and channels & videos links as well? been trying to figure the best way to do that. Thanks again!

Hi, Holley,

I had to do a little research and experimentation before I could give you a good answer.  I assumed that you can copy links to videos and radio stations in the same manner as songs -- and, for the most part, this is true.  The exception is that, while it works for videos as well as songs you cannot acquire the radio station URL from the player, as outlined in mp3 Player Method.

You CAN acquire the URL from your Control Panel > Modify Station.  Choose the station; hit 'modify' and you will see the url right at the top of the page.  Just copy and paste.

These convoluted solutions to copying links are only necessary if you're using Internet Explorer.  All you have to do in other browsers is is right click the 'play' or 'download' button and, in the popup menu, in Firefox or Opera, click 'copy link location', and, in Safari, click 'copy link'.  You're ready to paste.

I also tested the 'player objects' found in the panel at the top of the 'Post Reply' editor , and, although I was able to use one for my song in my last thread, New Website: Ma Normandie, I had no luck with trying to use them for videos.  I tried the WMV object, and it wouldn't display at all; and I tried the Quicktime object, and it tried to display, but informed me that I was missing some indeterminate plugin.

I hope this has been helpful.  Please let me know -- either on this thread or PM me.

Thanks, Holley, for a great question.
