Here's today's rest home show if anyone is interested. We had a blast! As usual, we handed out a bunch of maroccas and tamborines and stuff like that...so you hear a lot of residence jamming along and having a blast. Sometimes it's a task to keep timing..but the smiles on their faces and the fun they are having is priceless. I played my trusty Gold Tone CC100R banjo today.

Here's the song list:

Wayfairing Stranger, Don't Fence Me In, Your Cheatin Heart, Back In the Saddle, One Day at a Time, Eight to the Bar, Dance with who Brung You, Make the World go Away, How Great Thou Art, Waltz Across Texas, Beer Barrel Polka, Georgia on my Mind, Over the Rainbow, San Antonio  Rose, Kentucky Moonshine, Blue Skys, Closer Walk with Thee, Amazing Grace, Happy Trails.

I remember when you were just a few guys jamming on your lunchbreak. Fantastic gig, well done all of you. The Lord has given you the talent and you  are using it well.
Keep her lit. Gerry.

A very heart felt THANK YOU you guys!

You are right Gerry...it all started when we decided to learn guitar over our luch breaks. God works in mysterious ways...I never would have dreamed we would be doing this now...but we aint getting any younger, and this is like a dream come true for all of us...so we're going for it with all we got:) BTW This month is kind of a milestone for me, because it was a year ago this month that I tried playing a banjo for the first time. It was July of last summer that I got my CC100R (by Richard's recommendation)...and I love it more today than ever.

Hey Dean , well done boys ! Plus the fact that you are lighting up peoples lives must make it very special . Man time flys by , you were a guy playing what you called "rot gut blues" on here a few years ago and now you play a bunch of instruments. It's very cool to see folk progress over the years (how many years has it been anyway ?)

cheers

John

Thanks Maddog!:)

It was 2 1/2 years ago I got a guitar from Goodwill and put it in my locker at work and began this incredable journey. It was 2 years ago that I threw away the books, made up my own rules, got a uke, found ezFolk, and REALLY started having fun. Then Banjo Brad started messing with my mind with all his banjo recordings...and it was a year ago a friend of mine bought a banjo...and I finally got to try one...and been hooked ever since and am having more fun than I ever dreamed possible!

Man, you guys are great! Didn't have time to listen to the whole thing but had to play my favorites:  Wayfaring Stranger, Blue Skies, Amazing Grace and Happy Trails.  Really nice live performances.  And you can tell you're having a good time!

If my partner's job search doesn't lead her out of state, we will be doing some of this.  If so, I may be bugging you for advice if that's alright.

Nice job!

Scott

Thank you so very much Scott!!! Feel free to bug away!:)

I just returned home from playing at another rest home this morning, and again it was a fantastic heartwarming jam. I couldn't believe it, we arrived a half hour early, and they were already waiting for us. I really wish you luck, and the only real advice I can give is to just do it...no matter what you do, they will love you. Handing out the precussion instruments and getting them involved has gone over even better than we ever expected. I just got home, and I can't wait to go back!:)

Great stuff, as always, Dean!  Those folks at the rest home are so lucky to get such fine interactive entertainment.  It's a wonderful thing you do - for them AND for the folk community.

Thanks Tony! The exerience is priceless, and just keeps getting better! It's also challenging me to learn more than I ever dreamed I could. Every month we add new songs, and it keeps me very busy (a big reason I'm not on line as much lately). What started as a way to get a little experience, has almost turned into a mission. As I read through this thread, I can't help but realize how much these wonderful people are changing my life.:)

Scott, any news on your lady friend's job?
