It’s easy to set up and sell digital files on ezFolk -- not just MP3 files, but virtually any other type of file as well such as videos (AVI, WMV, MPG, etc.), and other files such as PDF, DOC, ZIP, JPG, and more. You can even sell advance tickets to upcoming gigs! Pretty much any file that can be uploaded and downloaded can be offered for sale. Of course, they must be your own files and cannot infringe on the copyrights of others.

When selling your digital items, you are not paid directly (as in the Store section), but instead, all payments go into the ezFolk PayPal account. When your earnings reach $10.00, then you will be paid directly by us through PayPal. A detailed breakdown of all your sales is available in your Statistics section.

You receive 80% of the net earnings after the PayPal charges and you can set your own prices. We are set up for Micro Payments through PayPal so on small purchases such as individual MP3s the rates are much better than for a normal account.

Here's how it breaks down on the purchase of an MP3 for 99 cents:
.99  -- Selling Price
.10  -- PayPal Charges
.18  -- ezFolk Charges (20% of Net after PayPal Charges)
.71  -- Amount You Receive (80% of Net after PayPal Charges)

We started to do this about a year ago and at that time decided that there were some bugs that needed to be worked out. Now that the kinks have been worked out we're ready to go. If you added items to your digital vault during that time they should still be just like you left them, and they should also be currently available on your ezFolk site. Please check to be sure they're still showing up the way you want them and make any changes.

You can find more detailed instructions on setting up your digital files for sale in our FAQ section on the following page:

http://ezfolk.com/faq/Artists/detailed-overview/sell-your-music/sell-your-music.html

If you have any questions, please leave a message here in the ezFolk forums.

Richard, I have a general PayPal question:

I am setup to pay via a credit card, but I really am hesitant to enter my bank information into PayPal.  I assume if I were to use this service, I would need to enter that into PayPal in order to get paid, is that correct?

Mike,

You don't absolutely have to have a PayPal account. Of course, the payments from the buyers are coming into the ezFolk PayPal account, so the only thing an artist needs a PayPal account for is to get paid when they reach the $10 payout level. I prefer paying through PayPal because it's easier (pretty safe too by the way) but if someone doesn't have a PayPal account it's no big deal for me to send them a check instead.

Thanks Richard.  Nobody's beating down my door to purchase my stuff, but it wouldn't hurt to have another outlet.

Richard, love some of the new changes on your site. Have a question about this digital sales stuff. I've noticed that you can now upload PDF files. What I'm wondering, is there any money limit you can charge? Specifically more than the .99 cents.

I'm just about done tabbing the first CD's worth of music and thought about selling it in PDF form. I've had a little interest in how I play guitar also, so I thought about adding a little section on technique and playing style as well.

Already have a few internet people saying they'll buy, but I'm not getting my hopes up to high. Haven't sold anything over the internet, though I've tried a few things. Not sure all this digital sales stuff is really going to go to far for indiependent artists. Hmm... sounds like a thread there...

Hi Chris,

You can charge anything you want to. For instance, if you make up a set of tabs for one of your CDs that consists of 12 tabs, and you've got those in PDF files, you could ZIP all of those PDFs together and sell that as a collection for $10 or $20 or $30 or $19.95, or whatever you want to charge. That's just an example. Basically anything legal that can be uploaded and downloaded is fine, and you set the price.

Thanks Richard

Appreciate the response. As always, your post was just the information I needed and confirmed the idea of zipping the file for the CD's worth of tabs. Though I may also sell them individually.

Hi Richard,

If  I gave you a name & address of a charity, would you be able to make payment to them directly on my behalf?

thanks, Holley  :)

This is an excellent addition (or re-addition?) to the site - my only problem seems to be if you add a new song and the vault file at the same time - am I right in thinking these cannot be the same file? The upload for both failed when I tried this.

Dan :)

Holley... When your digital sales reach the $10.00 payout level the payout is made to whatever PayPal account is associated for payout of the account as set up in "Modify Artist" so you could do it that way. I think the best way though would be to just accept the payment yourself, then write a check or whatever to your charity of choice when you're ready to.

Dan... As far as I know you should be able to upload the same MP3 at the same time for the vault as well as for the streaming MP3. All of mine were added after they were originally uploaded so I haven't tried it first hand. If it's a problem that keeps happening let me know so I can look into it.

Hi Richard

I'll try it again when I have some new tunes (hopefully quite soon!) - might just have been a glitch with my computer?

cheers

Dan :)

I used to have BlastMyMusic linked to this site; but somehow that is gone.  I liked the fact you can offer an album or each song individually.  Can that be posted to the vault?  Or does each individual song require new up load?
I prefer to go thru you Ezfolk for payment; but wonder how I can upload say an album at a time.

Verne,

You can sell on ezFolk in a way similar to BlastMyMusic. Instead of selling just individual MP3s you could sell a whole album (or CD) but it has to be just one file so an album would need to be zipped so all of the MP3s would be contained in one file. Of course you can sell each song individually too.

The best way to figure it out is to read the directions on this page...

http://www.ezfolk.com/faq/Artists/detailed-overview/sell-your-music/sell-your-music.html

Let me know if there's something in there you don't understand.

I'm thinking things may have changed a tad since you posted that.

When I try it things look a bit different. Here's a chunk of the screen in the "add new vault item" section. I can figure out most of it except...

OK... "Item Name" is obviously the name of the song (I know you can sell other things, I'm simply thinking of mp3 downloads right here).

But what is "New Entry Category?"

"Item Description" I'm sure is analagous to "Song Info" but...

...here in the "Modify Song" page the field is tiny. Are you supposed to enter all the info that you could in the other page? And where is the "New Entry Category" (whatever that is) when you're in this screen?

Lastly, when I switch to the "Flashback" theme it looks different than your page (mainly in the background). Are there now more themes besides Flashback that work with the vault?

Thanks!

HH,

There probably are some differences in the vault entries from when I first added that info and unfortunately right now I don't have time to redo it.  Maybe I try to explain it enough to help you get it straightened out.

I think that "New Entry Category" box showed up without a "Category" or "Existing Category" directly above it because it was your first one. It's kind of like sorting things out with albums. It's optional on whether or not you want to use it.

There are different ways to add vault items (directly into the vault or associated with an MP3 or video). If you're selling an MP3 of a song that you're allowing free streaming on you would want to enter that vault info directly under the "Modify Song" page so the system know to associate it with the song. Then the sale options are shown when the song is being streamed. As you mentioned, there's just a small form on the bottom of the "Modify Song" page. You can enter more information if needed by modifying the info in the Vault after you've modified the song. The vault information you added for the song will be copied over to the vault so a separate entry can then be found there.

If you're selling some type of digital file that is not related to one of your existing MP3s or videos then you can enter it directly into the vault. This can be an MP3 that's not being offered for streaming or a PDF of a tablature or whatever.

Hope that helps. If not, let me know. Keep in mind I'm just another user so I'm definitely not an authority on the whole thing. If somebody knows more about it maybe they'll chime in.
