I noticed that the band NOS (Not Otherwise Specified) really has taken advantage of their MP3 space and I wanted to encourage the rest of you folks to do the same if you're up to it. It does take some extra work, but it should pay off for you.

I'll point out a few of the things that NOS has done that most others have not taken advantage of...

1.) MESSAGES (I'll go by the tabs at the top of the MP3 pages) -- NOS has several messages on the first page telling about where their playing and also linking to a newspaper article about them. They've also included the text of the article in another message. This page is important because it's the index page where everybody lands when they click on your name.

2.) MUSIC -- They have pictures for all of their songs and have included lyrics and song information. They have decided to just allow streaming of most of their songs (everybody can make their own choice on that).

3.) STORE -- I think they are the first ones to take advantage of the store. All you need is a PayPal account and you can sell your CDs or other items (T-shirts, Books, etc.) directly. That's all between you and PayPal. I don't get a cut of the profits or anything like that. Where else you gonna get a free store??

4.) EVENTS -- NOS has posted their upcoming gigs on their events calendar so anyone in their area will know where they will be playing.

5.) STATIONS -- uh, that area's not working right now but I'm working on getting it operational... hopefully soon.

6.) ABOUT -- NOS has done an excellent job with their biographical information so people will have an idea of who their listening to.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to point out what a good job they've done with their pages and I hope a lot of others will work on an excellent presentation for their own pages. My own pages don't look too great but I'll be working on tidying things up as I have time. Hope you'll do the same!

Richard -

My first impression of NOS was that it is a professional band and has probably made good use previously of other websites. Since it has been difficult to figure out what should go where and how it is accessed by others, I really haven't put much work into my site.

Being a rank amature and not having anything to sell, I tend to use this space as an area where I will put things for others to see what a loner can do with folk music. My area will grow as I get better at using the recording software (I am really tired of having to rerecord everything 4-5 times in order to get it to upload as a LoFi file without bombing out (has to do with settings in the recording software, but that's an entirely different beast!).

I want to congratulate the Old Drovers (I think it is) for posting their stuff in LoFi, at least I can listen to it with only minimal disruptions for buffer-filling (only 5 or 6 15-second pauses per song).

Anyway, the space is available for us all, and I keep looking for songs that I want to hear and/or learn.

:thumbs2: Keep on pickin'
Brad
