HH-

I just looked at your location - I'm sure that there is a music shop up there where someone can (and would probably be happy) to show you what you need to know. Maybe even if you don't want to buy a banjo ("yet").

It is really a simple motion, but I know there are lots of folks who just can't get it.

Another words description that is excellent is in the "How and Tao of Clawhammer Banjo" e-book on the c-h banjo page here.

If I run across a video, I'll let you know.

HH-

I took a little time today and made a clip of the basic clawhammer stroke.

If you want, I can e-mail it to you, it is a .wmv file, or I would post it here.

Someday soon I will get a webpage of my own and I will be able to put things there that can't be sent here.

It's not very professional, but I do a basic "Bum - Ditty" stroke on the tune "Skip To My Lou".

Thanks, Brad!

You can mail it if you want but it sure sounds like something Richard would put on ezFolk (though it might have to be translated into something a little less platform-specific). Richard?

The easiest way to send such a large file is to use You Send It (http://www.yousendit.com/). Keeps from clogging up the ol' mail servers.

My email is howlin dot hobbit at gmail dot com.

There's a chance that before long (could be a few months) you will be able to post videos in the MP3 section of ezFolk, so Brad, hang on to any videos you do and post them on your MP3 page when that option becomes available. It's definitely coming, but I'm not quite sure when.

Thanks, Richard -

I will hang on to it, and hope to be able to put it on the mp3 page.

HH-

I will send the file later today or tomorrow, I had it at over 4Meg, and it bounced from CMac's mail server, but I found I could save it as an 'e-mailable' clip, so I have sent it to CMac, and if it doesn't bounce, I will send it to you. I have also included a text file of what I am doing, and a simple tab of the song I use on the clip.

Hang in there.

That's why I suggested You Send It (http://www.yousendit.com/). You can send a file up to a gigabyte, you don't have to sign up for any "account" and they store it on their servers until I retrieve it (or 7 days goes by, whichever comes first).

I checked out the site, and I thought it said 1,000 kb,but I could be wrong, sometimes I don't read as closely as I should.

I reshot the clip earlier today, from a different angle, and sent it to CMac. So far, no bounce so I will send it to you via usendit, so it should reach you soon.

Thanks for the link, it could prove useful in the future!

Let me know what you think of the tutorial, I am thinking of trying to set up something that could augment Richard's efforts.

I have made two attempts to send the tutorial (w/tab) via email, but both howling dot hobbit at gmail dot com and howlinghobbit at gmail dot com have bounced. I don't know about the clip, but I sent it to Yousendit with both email addresses, so let me know what happens. (Or email me at fjbrad@thegrid.net and I will be able to reply with the info.).

The current clip is just over 1 Meg (1,008 Kb).

That's because there's no "g" at the end of howlin.

howlin dot hobbit at gmail dot com will definitely work.

Thanks!
