Looking to buy my first Banjo, local pawn shop got a Fender 5 string Korea KD99100620. What would be a good price to pay, looks to be in good shape needs new strings and their a couple loose nuts on head. did a web search using serial number but nothing came up. I play the guitar so thinking maybe 6 strings but see their a big differents to a 5 string and I want that banjo sound Opinion welcome, thanks. Lyle

If you would like to have "that banjo sound" you will need the drone string found only on a 5-string banjo. However, if you're used to playing guitar with a flatpick, that technique doesn't sound good on a banjo, which requires fingerpicking and arpeggiated chords. That serial number will not tell you anything about the model of that used banjo. A new Fender banjo costs at least $250: http://folk-instruments.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-FB300-Banjo-Pack?sku=517579
