I only found one site -- another banjo forum -- that seemed to perhaps have them but I couldn't access them for some reason that has to do with my lack of computer literacy. I haven't had this kind of problem finding tabs on the internet before, so I think it's just an unfortunate coincidence that I'm not able to open the tabs on the ONLY site that I could fine them on! But I'm hoping one of you might know of another place I can look (online)... (?)

Thank you!

Hey while I'm at it, I wouldn't mind getting the tabs for the Dixie Chicks' version of Stevie Nicks' "Landslide," in case anyone reading this just happens to know exactly where I could find those as well! ;)

What site would that be, Theresse? If it's the Banjo Hangout, I believe you need to register, and also you would possibly need the correct software to open the tabs after you have downloaded them, i.e. "TABview" or "Tabrite" or I think they have a couple of other formats.

Not being an up-to-date type of guy, I don't play or listen to much from after about 1930 or so, and I'm not a real BlueGrass fan, although I do like some of the DC's early stuff.

Good luck

Brad

Thanks Brad - I don't know what the circumstances were about that site or software, etc. Or even the name of that site at this point. I too am not interested in playing the banjo to play bluegrass or most contemporary stuff...I really just want to learn OT but ever since I was a kid I loved that little bit of banjo from that song so I'd like to figure it out. Once I get a little better at the banjo, e.g. get some scales down and start memorizing more chords, I'm sure I'll be able to figure out the music on my own...but I thought it would be nice to have anyway.

Oh - and i'm also interested in playing some classical on the banjo (e.g. Bach) and figuring out some nice lullabies for my kids. Every now and then I hear a song on the radio and think how great it would sound on the banjo, but it's rarely pop music or bluegrass or country, etc. Beyond traditional Old Time, I just want to experiment with some weird stuff. Along these lines I also thought it would be nice to put traditional japanese music (a short piece, like the famous Sakura) to banjo since the openback banjo sounds so much like a shamisen. See here to give you an idea:

Here's a nice adaptation on a classical guitar which is lovely:

Yeah, the Koto is a great instrument - I like Japanese music, myself.

I played classical guitar for over 40 years before I got into OT clawhammer banjo and fiddle, but just for my own enjoyment. I bought the Mel Bay Banjo Method - C tuning - concert style book when I bought my first banjo - it teaches the "classical banjo" style. My problem is that I look at the notation and my guitar side says that the 5th string G is played on the 1st string at the 5th fret. I still play around with it sometimes, but not too often.

I'd love to hear "Sakura" on a 5-string.

Brad

Well you could always do your own adaptation. ;-) I'm pretty sure I'll have to do it that way...it seems it will be very easy if I pick just the basic melody and add only a little to that. The nice thing is that keeping it simple is not a bad thing for such a simple, nerve-calming piece of music.

I just got a new (used) banjo and will post about it on the other thread...
