As many of you may know, the Hawaiian ukulele has its historical roots in Portugal, and so does the Brazilian cavaquinho.  Superficially, the cavaquinho looks like a concert uke, but it has steel strings and is braced differently.  It is tuned higher than a uke, in fact one octave higher than a baritone uke or guitar, tuned DGBd or DGBe, and is played with a flatpick.

The video comes from Brazil, and the musician speaks Portuguese, but I think most viewers will understand his demonstration of the different musical styles that the cavaquinho can be used for:

Thats a great Demo,  I had bought one 3 years ago and did not play it much and sold it,  Kind of wish I had kept it.

Every time I tuned it ,I was afraid of strings breaking as they were really tight.

Charlie
