Anybody see one of these yet?
A new type of wood for ukuleles, and it's nicely priced. Pono did away with some fancy touches (logo is not pearl, only a decal, it's satin finish, and has a gig bag instead of a hard case) to make a budget line with good sound.
I called a shop and heard one, I liked the tone. The salesman was describing a big volume/resonance difference between it and the Kamaka koa, but over the phone I liked the character of the ojai. It had more of a pure, Oriental tone (maybe like a koto or something). And the sound came through the phone line just as strong as the other ukes he played.
I plan to try one, because I don't really care about volume, as I will use it just for personal playing and recording. For me, a little less resonance is an advantage if I get clarity instead.
But I thought I'd bring up the topic in case some of you have played one.
